What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? It looks like it will provide many experiences right across the curriculum.

“I teach New Entrant children and I found it too tricky for first thing in the year with brand new children. I put it aside with the plan to go back to it once the children had been at school a little longer...and then Lock-down happened. SInce school has been back, it has been a very busy time welcoming the remaining children who turned 5 over lock-down into the classroom so I still haven't had a chance to use it. However I do plan to use it next term.”

What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? We used the cards to discuss a number of things and the kids were able to relate some of the things that happened in lockdown to the cards. They really enjoyed the would you rather - and we have continued with this theme

What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? I had anticipated basing the use of this on te ao maori and local puraakau, however given lockdown was unable to.

How did you find the open format of this kit? Great for me to direct the learning where my students prior knowledge is and for them to be able to relate to themselves. Though I'd prefer some more teacher instructional material in the kit to give me some guidance.

What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? Having an open format and lots of scope for interpretation allowed cross-curricular links to be easily made. We took mostly a social studies/literacy/art focus, but I could see how useful it could be for many areas of the curriculum.

How did you find the open format of this kit? It was hard to grasp at first and required a lot of planning on my part to make it useful. The prompts and ideas were good, but I personally would prefer a few more specific lessons and objectives to follow.

“This kit had some good open ideas to develop in whichever way the teacher chose. Links to a variety of curriculum areas were easily made. Initially the openness of the kit was difficult as it required quite a bit of research and planning by the teacher in order to best fit the students and make the learning valuable. I also found some aspects difficult to use in a New Entrant classroom, but could see that they would be fine in an older class.”

What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? We will be using this in reading, writing prompts and maths. We will also be looking at it as we cover explorers in our New Zealand inquiry.

“I loved the openness of these kits. I did find them quite tricky to navigate at first but now I have seen the download sheets it's a lot easier. I haven't had a chance to use mine yet as I have just started in a new classroom with New Entrants after covid.”

What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? We did lots of cross-curricular, especially in terms of creating art on the raised topics, we used it in maths with measurement and used technology and seesaw to create mini lessons, videos and books about what we have learned.

How did you find the open format of this kit? Really good, because it allowed me to take it in the direction the kids were keen to explore. It gave me enough guidance to get started and come back to if needed, but gave me the freedom to follow the interests of the kids.

“It was fantastic, the kids LOVED all the activities. It created a lot of discussion and interest in our class and led to a number of kids reseraching a variety of topics touched on in the kit. The level of engagment from the kids was outstanding - and considering I have a lot of very hard to engage kids - that is saying a lot!! Thanks again for another fantastic kit!”
