What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? We were able to use the kit around the Treaty of Waitangi. These two linked nicely together however I feel that I didn't know how to use the kit to the best of its ability.

What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? There was a lot of scope for cross-curricular learning. Social studies, art, literacy etc. I loved the oral laguage that this kit created.

How did you find the open format of this kit? For me personally I prefer more structure so that I don't spend hours researching info. The facebook page was very handy though when other people asked questions that I too had queries on. School kit staff are aways super hepful when you have questions!

“This kit was a very well put together kit. There were a lot of potential to be had with this one! I teach Year 3/4. I actually felt that this kit shouldhave been geared more toward the Year 4-6 age range. A lot of scaffolding was needed.”

What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? There are great opportunities for incorporating visual art, drama, music, maths (measuring length), literacy with myths and legends, social sciences looking at explorers in history, exploring our own interests... the list goes on.

“Thank you School Kit. This is the first time I have used a school kit and I am most impressed. I love the way this kit integrates itself across the curriculum. We have only begun delving into it after returning to school in term 2. We are beginning with exploring our family stories and then extending our ideas of exploring into the what, where, who, when, why of exploring - animals and people. There is such an opportunity to incorporate curriculum areas - it would easily carry across a whole term.”

What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? Literacy (particularly oral language) was a big focus. Had to play around and adapt activities a bit though.

How did you find the open format of this kit? Struggled with the open format of the kit. I would have preferred to have a few specific lesson plans to get me started. Luckily I saw other teachers share ideas on Facebook so this gave me a bit more to go on. Will come back to some activities later.

What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? Because the Exploring Kit incorporated a variety of themes awe were able to explore stories and ideas through reading, writing, art, waiata, etc.

How did you find the open format of this kit? Beautifully presented! The illustrations and graphics were very eye-catching and the students loved the images. I found the kit quite overwhelming at first because there was so much in. It took me a while to find my flow with it.

“I teach at a predominantly Pasifika school and the subject matter of this kit was of real interest to them (navigation around the Pacific). We are also situated close by to some sites of historical significance that linked in with this topic which we were able to use to further enrich The Exploring Kit (Mana Island, Kupe, Pataka Museum and Art Gallery). Unfortunately, due to the Covid-19 lockdown we weren't able to exploit The Exploring Kit to its fullest potential, but I plan to use it in future years with different classes.”
