What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? It didn't because the concept of exploring was hard for 5 yr olds to understand.

What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? It didn't because we had to find the activities that worked for our kids and then create a programme that would help explain what exploring was and then try to implement it in a way that they could understand. All activities were quite challenging.

How did you find the open format of this kit? Challenging. Needed structure in some way to help guide the teaching, start at this one and follow this path etc. Too many choices to pick from within a limited timeframe, made it more work and then trying to adapt it to suit our children's needs.

What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? Website, storytelling clips, legends helped go across areas easy to connect art, literacy and social sciences. Also helped doing the get NZ writing kit at the same time.

How did you find the open format of this kit? The open format is definitely welcome, for my situation though I would've liked a few project based ideas to base some learning on, purely due to new school, new class, kids finding it hard to sit and talk.

“Great kit to start the year. Very open ended,good quality resources included. The map, dice and cards are well made and can be used in many ways. Some more structured ideas would've helped but this is due to my particular circumstances being at a new level, new class, new school.”

What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? We used the story telling dice and the cards to further enrich our oral language programme which tied in to literacy very well. We also used the kit to explore New Zealand culture and history

What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? Being able to use 1 resources to link the arts, languages, pangarau reo matatini in such an easily understood way not only for kaiako but tamariki has been an absolute bonus. Especially when these can all be easily adapted in to MMI settings.

How did you find the open format of this kit? The format of the kit is great visually making it easily followed and adult friendly - kaiako, kaiawhina, matua awhi alike. Having external links to use digital tech has been great.

What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? I think cognitively my students weren't ready for the cross-curricular learning experiences in this kit. They struggled with the concept of making a bird that doesn't look like a bird.

How did you find the open format of this kit? I spent so long watching the videos, reading all of the material and thinking how I could adapt it to my year level. I felt like it was a waste of my time as not much of it was applicable. I liked the topic but it would have been easier to not use the kit

“I found the kit really dense and hard to use with my year 1-2 class. They didn't engage with the videos and the activities were far above their abilities. I had to change quite a lot to make it suitable. We did enjoy the topic of explorers but this was more based off what we did that wasn't in the kit.”
