How did you find the open format of this kit? I would have liked more structure and ideas to use in practical ways in the classroom - I was not a fan of the very open nature of the kit. It would have been great to have seen what other teachers had done successfully to help and support.

“It was unfortunate that we did not really get to use this kit properly and finish it due to COVID 19. I really liked the sound of the kit and this is why I signed up to it. When I got the kit, I found it far to broad and I struggled to plan and link it across the curriculum. The ideas within it didn't give me much guidance or support. I did struggle with this kit and I didn't find it really beneficial. I tried to find ideas through other teachers in the Facebook page but their really was not much at all.”

What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? Health unit - exploring who we are, who is in our classroom, in our families, where we all come from. We finished with our pepeha/mihi. I uploaded photos to FB. Living World - we had just started exploring native animals when the lockdown happened.

What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? This kit allowed for so many learning opportunities. It was so simple to make links to dance, drama, music, art, writing, technology and social sciences.

“It is so nice to have a kit specifically designed for juniors! I often get the school kits and adapt them to fit my year 2 class, which can sometimes be a llittle tricky depending on what it is, but I love that your kits allow for that flexibility. I was so eager to see what these new junior kits would involve and was so excited when our Explorers Kit arrived. I think I passed that excitement on to my class becasue they loved it! They were so enaged with all of the activities within the box and loved exploring the online resources with me. My class and I learnt so much and they really enjoyed the story that this kit was based on and all the activities to go with it. I found this kit easy to link to their prior knowledge (with help from the movie Moana, score!). This lead to them finding books on exploring in our school library and discussing what they’d learnt with whānau. The poster in the box is now hanging in our learning space and is a great conversation starter between children and their parents in the mornings and afternoons. I think our favourite part of the box was the Thing + That + For. The children were so creative designing their creations and the oral language that came from this was fantastic! Unfortunately school was closed before we could build these together, but the beauty of your kits is that we could assign these sorts of tasks as part of our home learning! Another example of this are the question cards. We discussed a few of these as a class and it was great for them to have to explain their thinking behind their answers and practise their reasoning, and they provided some great laughs too. I can’t wait to continue to share more School Kit tasks with our tamariki while they are learning from home and we look forward to getting into our Farming and Respectful Relationships kits when we arrive back at school.”

How did you find the open format of this kit? Very valuable. I just had another look. Everything that is supplied is similar to what we use and do in class eg, poems, retelling, singing, storytelling. The dice are my favourite.
