“Unfortunately, our trip was cancelled due to lockdown. I teach new entrants/Year 1, so the kit was too hard for them to use. I like the website, and will continue to use it as a resource. Thank you for the links to other farming books, and the songs. I like the large mat, and the use of Te Reo Maori. The children enjoyed this mat most of all. I would have liked a more simple version. Just plain picture/photos of farm animals with English/Te Reo captions. We could then use them as a useful ongoing game for memory/bingo. I like the idea of the dice, but once again would have preferred pictures on the dice (farm animals/farmers/farm equipment) because then they could have been used as an independent game. Many thanks for the kit. It is a shame that Covid-19 disrupted our farm trip.”

What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? It enabled a wide range of cross-curricular learning experiences. For example their green farm (art) became their motivation for writing. Their 'design a shed' (art) became extended by maths (length, size etc) to fit animals into their design.

How did you find the open format of this kit? There are many benefits to an open format. As a Beginning Teacher, it perhaps would have been even more beneficial to have a few example lessons on how to go about delivering some of the content.

“This is a good resource that provided a lot of learning opportunities for my students. Many of my students are from farming families, the activities enabled them to confidently use their knowledge while learning new skills for example, creating comic strips, or self evaluate and critically evaluate a creation. This kit also extended the knowledge of those students with a farming background, they made connections and learned why some practices take place on their farm.”
