“My class thoroughly enjoyed this kit. I found the resources easy to follow, and we enjoyed linking them in with the ice cream recipe from a previous kit. We also extended our learning by visiting a nearby dairy farm. The pictures in the kit, as well as the map, helped my children develop a better understanding of the important components of a dairy farm and the journey our milk makes from glass to grass.”

We are play based so there are excellent ways to incorporate this kit and will post our work in the next few weeks. “Due to the lockdown I haven't fully engaged with the kit. The respectful relationships kit took priority once we returned to school. However, we have started to learn about the life cycles of farm animals and have used the learning mat that came with it to learn the words in te reo. I have the full kit ready to go in week 1 of Term 3, where we will use it alongside our science inquiry. The children have loved the songs that have supported this kit and we have played the music during some of our learning from play. I have different farm play stations planned for new term, I would have loved to have started this kit earlier but with the lock down the respectful relationship kit needed to be brought forward.”

How did you find the open format of this kit? As a teacher I liked the key words cards. They had words that we can quite often take for granted that kids know. I know it is sponsored by dairy NZ but it was a great starting point to look at all farming.
