What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? We were able to use the kit as a base for our inquiry learning in term 1 and some of term 2. The story, poem and dice were great in our literacy learning and the kids loved using them. The poem had lots of great language features that we explored.

“I really liked using the farm kit in my classroom. Our school is based in a rural community and it was great for kids to be able to share their own knowledge and become the experts while working through the kit. It was easy to follow the activities and came with plenty of instructions and ideas. Unfortunately due to Covid 19 we did not get to get to cover as much as I would have liked and still have the STEM cards and the postcard to send home which we will do later this term. The kit was practical for my Year 3 class and suited many different ability levels. I was able to tick off lots of different curriculum areas as well when working through the kit. Overall I really enjoyed using this kit and I am looking forward to using the respectful relationships kit in Term 3.”

Clearly multiple science learnings which generated further questions and investigating. The greens art was a favourite even though we havent yet finished it.

How did you find the open format of this kit? Found the open format a little disconcerting to begin with however once I got used to it I was happy with being able to adapt it to my classes interests.

“We began using this kit before Lockdown and the kids thoroughly enjoyed all the videos and the story sheet and story cards. Excellent oral language and imagination generated when they used the story cards independently in small groups, both when retelling the original story and then making up their own. The videos covered a wide range of farming subjects and were very engaging for my 5 and 6 year olds. They were very excited about the greens painting which surprised me, we started experimenting with mixing greens then Lockdown happened so they didnt get to paint a ";farm"; they have specifically asked to do that now though so we will. After the milk factory video and talking about bacteria and pasteurisation, we went on to make yogurt in class and are making cheese tomorrow. We will of course make ice cream too. This kit has been perfect for our small rural school. We have lots of farming kids but there was still so much for them to learn and they were all very excited and engaged in the learning.”
