“The kids and I really enjoyed using this kit. The Rosie's World Youtube stories were a hit. We learned Old MacDonald in NZSL as well as the names of the animals in Te Reo. It inspired farming provocations and invitations in our play sessions too. It was good for children to see that there is more to farming than just animals and to gain better understanding about where there food is grown and produced.”

“A really practical way in which our kids (semi rural) could explore their environment and think about what they did and did not know. I combined this it with our inquiry into Our community - so it was very good from this perspective. We didn't do a farm visit - it would have been good if we could have done this. My kids loved creating their own farm 'mural' on a long piece of paper - they even included a power station to ensure that everything had power on the farm. All waterways were fenced which demonstrated learning about responsibilities. It was also great to see them include the railway track and safety items such as signs and lights.”

“We were unable to get into the unit much at all other than using the farm poster to generate ideas at the start of the unit. Use some of the Rosie's World links to start getting the kids engaged in were used too. The postcard with questions were sent home as well at the start of the unit to begin conversations with families. It was a unit that I was really looking forward to getting into with my Yr 1/2 class as were are a rural school surrounded by a dairy farm. When we sit and have our Anchor milk on the back deck we have the cows over our shoulder. It is a very relevant topic for us especially with 60% of our kids coming from town.”
