How did you find the open format of this kit? I have not seen the other types of formats that have previously been used. I liked being able to select what I thought my kids would be engaged with. It leads to a more self directed approach to learning.

“I loved the farm kit. We had planned to look at it in the 2nd half of the term. We started with a trip to Staglands Upper Hutt to ignite topic. The kids loved the large mat with maori animal names on it and we did some writing based around this. We also looked at some of your online clips. We had planned to look at flower in water experiment but circumstances didn't allow. To expand this kit, other types of farms could have been investigated also.”

What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? We have not created the artwork yet, but will. We used drama a lot for the story telling card and the poem - even acting out would you rather! Used the tokens for maths and enjoyed creating our own stories about life on the farm. Stunning use of te reo!

“We absolutely loved this kit! We are a small rural school, some of our students live, and think the work, on farms, while others commute to us from more urban settings. Having the farming kit enabled us to bridge a gap and help develop a shared understanding. I loved the across curriculum links that the Schoolkit specialises in, especially the integration of literacy and the arts. This kits has provided lots of opportunities for drama and for some of our kids to be our farming experts, linking their learning to their prior experiences. We have not completed what I was wanting to, but will continue to use it when school is back to normal.”

“I think this is an awesome kit. It fits perfectly in our overall theme Identity. We were suppose to have started this kit already but under the unforeseen circumstances we had to alter. I will have to water down some of the activities for my New Entrants but there is so much learning in all of them. They are going to enjoy designing their own farm and of course mixing the colours to make the different shades of green.”

“In my class in a small country school the Farming Kit was well received. Our area is predominantly sheep and beef farming so the emphasis on dairy farming meant that it was something new for the children to learn about -whilst also building on their prior knowledge. I was able to start the work prior to Lockdown, adapt some of the activities so that they could be completed independently at home and I plan to continue working with the kit on our return to school. The kit had lots of ideas and everything was clearly set out.”

“Great Kit just a pity we couldn't finish it. Our children really engaged with the kit especially when they were able to build their own farms. Lots put into these buildings. It was good as we are a rural area although we did not get to the sustainability part which was where we were heading. Never mind we can pick it up again next year.”
