“This is the 3rd time I have received the Get NZ writing kit, and I think this one was probably the most difficult for my students. Partly because I have a large group of students who find writing very challenging. We loved using Google maps and creating our class poem and this was done collaboratively. The students also loved their special glasses and enjoyed writing their own coded messages. The sestina part was quite challenging, even for me to understand and I don't feel we did this very well. You would think writing 6 sentences would be easy! Overall we enjoyed the kit and receiving a special package from our buddy class. Thanks school kit.”
“Once again the Get NZ Writing school kit engaged and entertained my class. It was such a cool way for them to enjoy and participate in poetic writing. They particularly enjoyed the confessions! It was also great to integrate the use of digital technologies in the program. Through using Google Maps we also found a genuine need to examine things like scale, making it a really cool integrated activity. Awesome!”
“Once again I will compliment School Kit on their creativity and expertise in designing another Get New Zealand Writing Kit. We were lucky because we completed and posted off our writing to our partner school before lock-down so we are looking forward to receiving their writing in return. My students all enjoyed working through the varied activities that were part of this kit and generated some really good pieces of writing as a result. Thank you very much again School Kit and I will look forward to registering my 2021 Year 7 class at the end of the year.”
“We loved this kit. The students especially enjoyed the confession writing - this had some fabulous and hilarious results. I liked the different structures for the poems. The element of the 3D glasses took it to a whole new level. The support material was useful as well. I always look forward to these kits and this was no exception. Just an amazing resource!!”
“When you put it you probably never imagined how much it would mean to me and the 75 year 5 students I saw for literacy very day. In the last week, the students were very anxious and this kept us busy. We had so much fun confessing our naughty moments, learning to use google maps and finally putting together our Journey pathway poems. I was so proud of my kids.”
“I loved starting the year off with some poetry writing and the kids loved that they could create a really cool poem in a relatively short time frame.
We loved the 'confession' poem and also got some really cool and personal list poems. These are of the kids collaborating while making our class 'book of the road' poem to send.
We loved it and will definitely sign up again next year if the opportunity is available
Thanks team, you really are the best! We love your kits!”
“My class loved taking part in the Writing Kit 2020. We enjoyed the range of poems and exploring the journey using google maps. It was fascinating to hear the kids shock at the fact we were sending it all the way to the bottom of the country. They wrote some great This is just to say poems and we were really happy with how our the poster poem turned out. It was a big challenge to write only 6 words for the path and journey activity and the parts to create the Sestina. I have a class who love to have the answer instantly and found it very difficult not having a right or wrong and being unable to just chuck a new word in there. The end results were worth the frustrations though!
Our kit is packed and ready to go when we have the opportunity to return to school :) I have included some photos below of our poems.
Thanks for all the hard work that you continue to do and the extra activities that you have created in the last few weeks.
Keep up the great work and thanks again for another wonderful kit!”
“My class has enjoyed this kit. However, it was hard fro my younger students. I have a multi level class year 3-5. The students loved the old school mapping to get to our buddy class. Lots of fun and thinking going on for my little class.”
