In what ways did the kit allow development of strategic thinking for your students? Every activity developed their strategic thinking. They had to work as a team to problem solve, practice trial and error and make decisions. I have a Year 3/4 class but worked with some older children that were able to lead the younger year 3s.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Many of the children enjoyed the different codes that were used to decipher the first clue. They wanted more of these challenges so I will incorporate these into the classroom. They enjoyed thinking about how maps have changes and how countries had develo

How has this kit influenced your confidence in STEM teaching and learning? I've always enjoyed STEM teaching but it is lovely to get a kit all set up for us with the necessary resources and planning done for us, thank you.
“My class loved the Jean Batten kit. I had planned to do it just as lockdown struck so instead I gave the children an activity on researching Jean Batten and presenting in a creative way. This was a great lead in when we came back to school as many children had prior knowledge and they got to share their findings with others. My class loved cracking the codes, popping the balloons and making their buzz planes”

In what ways did the kit allow development of strategic thinking for your students? It was interesting to see the divide in the class around problem solving, coding etc. It required some to really extend themselves. However it allowed for those who could to really extend themselves.

How has this kit influenced your confidence in STEM teaching and learning? I'm more confident than before but for now would still like to follow kits like this.
“The Yr 6's in the class had some previous knowledge on Jean Batten from a separate lesson I did last year which really helped bring the Yr 5's onboard. They loved the hands on of the plane making. The problem solving paired with the resilience/growth mindset pushed a few of the class mates but the collaboration that came from it was really positive to see. Used a journal and some other videos to aid the Jean Batten content as well.”

In what ways did the kit allow development of strategic thinking for your students? Allowed students to form their own lines of inquiry to follow, based on the motivation trinkets as tasters. Students learned about thick and thin questioning and confidently navigated their own inquiries.

“Lots of new, hands on and exciting challenges for our students. Would definitely do this again with students in the future. There was alot of new learning and the pack has plenty of supplies. It took abit to get my head around the different tasks but was well worth persisting through this.”
