In what ways did the kit allow development of strategic thinking for your students? We used this kit alongside other aviation based lessons as part of our literacy programme. We were unable to complete all the activities in the kit due to the lockdown.

“We used the Jean Batten kit as a jumping off point for our terms literacy programme. It was very engaging for students who really enjoyed the hands on activities alongside the writing programme that we developed to support the kit. This kit was of particular interest to boys and this is always a bonus in literacy. Unfortunately the covid lockdown in Auckland cut our programme short, however we will be completing it in term 4 when we return to school.”

In what ways did the kit allow development of strategic thinking for your students? The students enjoyed having to think strategically about the codes and how the clues could relate to the overall storyline. They needed to work together and think outside the box in order to solve clues.

It was very easy to implement and it was great that all of the parts were included. The only part that was slightly difficult was finding a tool to cut off the toothbrush

Our focus was on Ururangi the star of the wind. The kids loved the hands on activities and code cracking. Their absolute favourite activity was the buzz planes.”
