“This was a fantastic kit provided by the school kit. Both the students and I as the teacher learnt a lot, the tasks were engaging and the design of the tasks worked really well. We did this over several lessons rather than in one day and this also worked well, we were able to extend our knowledge of different parts as we went. Great things are included in the kit to help make learning fun and engaging for students.”

How has this kit influenced your confidence in STEM teaching and learning? Very happy with how the kit helped to increase confidence in STEM. A large number of hands on activities that required thinking outside the box. A number of challenging activities.

“We loved the Jean Batten kit. It fitted in beautifully with our focus on flight and a Wonder Project kit that focused on bottle rockets. It has been great to see the engagement and enthusiasm of our learners. We found that, while some parts took us some reading to sort out, the kit was jam packed full of experiences and ideas that challenged the children's thinking. It was definitely important to have spent time learning about the codes before tackling the challenges. We were able to integrate a large number of activities. We watched the section of the Jean movie where she was in a sandstorm and imagined that we were Jean writing in her diary at the end of the day. We wrote bio poems and made info boxes. We made miniature planes and some children were able to adapt the buzz plane parts to making the miniatures work too. We made bobblehead cats to represent Buddy. Children all mapped three of Jean's journeys on their own maps that we displayed as cylinders so that they understood that she flew around the globe to get here.”

How has this kit influenced your confidence in STEM teaching and learning? I think this Kit enabled many members of my team to give Steam a go. It was a rich topic that we used to launch our own Inquiry into flight. Students were really engaged by the paper plane building and wanted to explore this more.
