“It was a great kit. It was quite hard to actually solve how to complete the tasks. I preferred the old method of delivering how to do the learning content.
The kid enjoyed the kit. However, every teacher (3) at our school that got this kit all had parts missing so we were all unable to complete the buzz planes. That was disappointing.”
“Our class of year 4/5s really enjoyed this kit. They absolutely loved how interactive and Hands on it was. We were able to link it to journal article and also “Sky High” book which gave the students some awesome information to whip out some amazing descriptive writing!
The school kit guide was was easy to follow for myself and my teacher aide.”
“I loved this kit it was super interesting and it had a fantastic code cracker component to it as well. My classs of Year 5 and 6's really loved it. Thank you school kit”
“What an amazing kit. So many trinkets and special things to hook the kids in. An excellent extension as we had been looking at biographies of Famous New Zealanders in Reading in preparation for writing their own early next term.”
“Our class had such a great time learning about Jean Batten. I also had a great time discovering how successful learning through steam activities can be. Every student was fully engaged and excited about their learning!
Students completed a slide show explaining their learning and shared this with whanau during our student led conferences. They were all super proud and confidently talked about different ways to communicate (including morse code), map co-ordinates, different types of planes that Jean flew and problems that Jean met on some of her flights.”
“The kids loved the hands-on activities and also learning more about Jean Batten. The kids were provided with a challenge and they enjoyed doing something out of the ordinary.”
“My Year 7/8 students had a lot of fun with this kit. It did take a bit of preparing my end to make sure I understood all the activities, but once we were underway in class, it ran smoothly and the students LOVED it! I think the biggest highlight for them was the code cracking - they all wanted to swap around and try all three types - semaphore, morse and naval. Students were fascinated by the map and where she flew, how many times she stopped and how long it took. The journal Hine-o-te-Rangi: The Adventures of Jean Batten (School Journal Level 3 November 2018) was an excellent supplement. I also watched the movie 'Jean' prior to starting which gave a great understanding of her life - some bits which are clearly left out for the students! This was a superb kit, very engaging and something I will bring out to use again in the future :). Thank you :)”
“It was a great kit to launch our inquiry into flight.
The students loved making the buzz planes and were really engaged with all the separate activities. It was great to not have to print anything off, however back g the PDFs as backups was great. A lot of the resources were well presented snd designed. Was really fun and would recommend.”
