“Students really enjoyed the hands-on activities. Also the code breaking activities were great challenges and worked very well for teaching perseverance and teamwork.
It created interest for our learning around NZ heroes.”
“This kit was amazing!!! Right from the dramatic start of the unit my class were hooked in. The problem solving activities gave me so much insight on the key competencies for my end of term reports. The range of gripping activities meant that many different strengths and multiple intelligences were needed to solve the problems, giving different children a chance to shine. I don't think my class will ever forget the amazing life of our very own 'Jean Batten'.”
“Our school have been learning about (and celebrating) famous New Zealanders, so this kit was perfect for Term 2. I found some of the activities a bit challenging to understand myself and needed to adapt them, but we still got a lot of learning out of it! My children loved the kit - I think the phonetic alphabet was definitely the highlight of their learning, along with the paper planes. Thanks for this great kit, we were so fortunate to get it.”
“This was an awesome adventure kit - a great way to get the kids learning about NZer's they had not heard about before. They really enjoyed this one - thanks again!”
“The kit itself was good as an independent activity. It was a little confusing to get my head around the planning and organisation of it. With 3 teachers we got there! It does need front loading of learning and information about Jean Batten, code cracking and coordinate reading in order to access the kit itself. I wonder if that needs to be outlined more clearly within the planning?”
“Students thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to problem-solve and collaborate. Since our inquiry topic this term was around New Zealand history, this was a very fitting activity context to coincide with our classroom focuses.
A great topic with lots of great discussion!”
“Super interesting and I especially enjoyed the empowering female message with a strong group of female students. Very creative thinking and engaging, well planned activities.”
