The initial disbelief to seeing it come to light was eye opening for them. The excitement about not just seeing something on a screen and doing it in real life was something that really ignited their passion.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? History - lots of interest in the past and how electricity has come to be, further interest in more experiments around light and even sound.
What opportunities arose for cross curricular learning while teaching this kit? literacy and numeracy, we also had some cool art come out of this as well. Lots of writing, explanations, poems and even persuasive letters to get more science gear into our school.

“This kit was WOW!!! The class absolutley LOVED their deep dive into science and it really ensured everyone at any level could access learning in some capacity. The talk this kit generated was outstanding and it led to further learning about electricity and even history. A fabulous kit that had lots of opportunities for rich talk, exploration, reflection and making connections - literally and within our brain!”

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? This kit links in well with our term theme of Creativity. This means we can continue looking at energy transformation in a creative way in making our own inventions, which was touched on in one for the S.K lessons
What opportunities arose for cross curricular learning while teaching this kit? We linked writing in during most lessons. For example, pretending we were mad scientists and using the popcorn experiment to then write using our 5 senses

“Lots of resources provided with the kit. Website took a while to get used to, but particularly because there is so much on it (this is a good thing). The most interesting experiment (in my opinion) unfortunately didn’t work, the first experiment. This was because the lights we were supplied with required a minimum of 3V to work. We were supplied with 1.5V batteries. This discovery was through our own trial and error at home. Unfortunately the children didn’t get to participate in this experiment like they should have because of this fault. But we were able to show them an example. When we reached out for help unfortunately we didn’t really get much guidance or support. The popcorn experiment was a successful experiment which they all enjoyed, and we were also able to link in writing easily.”

“The power kit was a really great idea to get my tamariki focused and engaged with new learning. I did find parts of the kit a little confusing to use - or not incredibly necessary for my tamariki. The aspect that they were most engaged with creating the circuits, but unfortunately our circuits did not light up. I was unsure if it was due to the batteries being dead or the conductive/non-conductive playdough that I made. We tried multiple different set ups to try and get it lit up, but unfortunately it wouldn't work.”

“The power kit caught the children's attention very quickly with the contents. The results and projects we explored were very hands on, just what 5 year Olds love! Unfortunately the batteries provided weren't powerful enough but we improvised with a 9v and these worked well.”
