What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Awareness of racism and unity are always relevant.
How did this kit help your students understanding of art with a purpose? The interview with the artist and the reason why she designed the circle print was very meaningful for the children.

“Room 3 were booked to do this unit last year however we ran out of curriculum time. I therefore commenced the unit at the start of this Term. Even though it was linked to the Christchurch bombing which happened a while ago it was still amazingly relevant. We learnt alot about racism and how it effects people. We loved the creative process and wrote visual poems which we presented on artwork which included the stamp. We collected paper to print on which linked to unity in the childrens lives. We have exhibited our work in the classroom.”

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We linked this kit to our overall unit oof Kia Kotahi Tatou encompassing learning about conflict, kotahitanga and roesolve. This also linked to our environmantal unit helping us to achieve Green Solver status for our school
How did this kit help your students understanding of art with a purpose? We linked this unit to a visit to the local art museum to talk about migration and where we come from. This prior learning through the use of the kit helped consolidate the students knowledge base and really help link the use of the kit with external agencies.

Using this kit to help with our overall yearly concept help the student emmensly to learn about the conflict that racism causes and how as humans in isn't something that is acceptable in our community.

“We really enjoyed using this kit within our whanau. We were super blessed to be able to use this kit later than usually to fit with our school overview so it linked to the students' prior and future learning. The art supplies were amazing and the students really had a great time using the prints to form their own original pieces. Howick Intermediate cannot thank School Kit Squad enough for all that you do for education and the students of New Zealand. You are all amazing. What a great resource and I look forward to using many more kits in the future.”

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Learners inquired into different ways they can use the arts to express themselves, using the concept of communication. This was supported through poetry, speeches and debating.
How did this kit help your students understanding of art with a purpose? The resources were brilliant and inspired the students to grow their own ideas to express themselves through visual art.

The kaupapa of Kotahitanga was unpacked and provided an opportunity to reflect on the things that we value. Some good robust discussions were had and then ideas were expressed through class speeches.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We went on a jouney, and ended up at brand symbols, and then a focus on etiquette in many cultures, it turned into a really interesting cultural unit.

How did this kit help your students understanding of art with a purpose? Some were able to understand the idea but some still just see art as something they have to do and it is not their favoured choice.
How did using art as the context allow your learners to explore the themes of racism and inclusivity? Basic concepts started some great oral language conversations, especially around colonisation.
