In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? Writing, science, maths were all incorporated into the little garden kit as they measured time and height, wroteabout their experiences and Who Am I? stories about different veges and fruit.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? I will continue to teach by growing plants.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? They learned about new vegetables and learned about how food is grown. They also learned about the requirements for life for living things.

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? Lots of writing, reading and maths(measuring) It was easy to make links.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We moved on to hydroponics this term so the knowledge gained was really useful.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? We tried some different recipes e.g. they made hummus so they could dip vegetables into it.

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? Linked nicely with inquiry looking at The Water Cycle and what plants needed to survive. Allowed us to explore using micro:bits to measure moisture and see when we needed to water our plants. Linked across with Literacy, writing stories about the LGL and

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? The opportunity to learn more about our land, how we need to be kaitiaki and the importance of all land and water areas. Learning about food production and farming on a grand scale.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Awareness of where vegetables come from leading to increased ownership and willingness to try new vegetables. Students transported the pots to our school garden when they were strong enough and they have continued to water and look after them.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? The children all tried new veges and realised they like them raw. Parents gave me feedback that the kids talk about what they would like to eat at home.

“Hi there, Ruma Toru loved our kit. We had a session to guess what might be in our parcel. We had lots of great ideas. The tamariki loved being part of the Little Garden League. They quickly learned the names of the seeds they were planting. We sorted them to discover seeds we didn't know and we researched them. The children planted their seeds and cared for them. They started to share the names of the veges they were eating at home. We transplanted our seedlings in the school garden and then we planted more seeds. We had shared kai where the children tried many of the veges they didn't know and it was fabulous to see them all trying something new. We can't wait to harvest our own veges from the garden. This kit was perfect for the Year1/2 class. Thank you. The tamariki are still caring for their seedlings and parents have added some raw veges in their lunchboxes. Thank you.”

How effective was this kit in promoting healthy eating in your classroom?

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? This kit linked perfectly with measurement - watching the seedlings grow and tracking their growth. We also wrote about the process of planting the seeds in their special cups. It prompted great oral language opportunities for my Year 0-1 class.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We had a very busy term with some other inquiry focusses (outer space!) so we didn't follow on much further with this kit. Unfortunately when we planted them in our school garden some were ruined by some extremely warm weather! That prompted further discu

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? We discussed the vegetables/herbs that some of the tamariki had not heard of before and we had general discussions about healthy eating.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Learning more about the environmental impact of growing your own food in comparison to buying from the store/ not local.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? It was interesting to find how many students had no idea where food came from - let alone how to grow their own. They were hands on and led the learning right from growing through to eating.

“We have used a few kits over the past 2 years and this, by far, has been enjoyed the most by the students. From the get go, they were engaged in the learning and couldn't wait to do more the next day.”
