In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? There were many times we integrated our learning and centered it around the plants. We looked into: reading, writing, science, math, key competencies. We needed to measure the time it took for our seedlings to sprout. The children had made a time line and
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Sustainability: Children understanding that something as small as a seed can produce nutritious food for them to enjoy has been a new learning. having to care and look after something just how their parents do was a great sense of self management in class
In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? The children's knowledge of nutrition and taste buds has grown immensely. At the beginning there were some 'odd' plants that were new to the children. They were able to research and find information and facts about the plants they were caring for.
Thank you so much Little Garden Kit for providing an outstanding experience for children to become aware of how to look after and nurture something they will benefit from.

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? This class participates with an 'inschool' model of garden to table, so there are regular opportunities to include recipes, food tech, garden experiences throughout the year.
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Making vege muffins - some to eat, some to share with whanau, some to put in the freezer, for those days when someone needs more food for the day. This meets our school values of caring for others.
In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? There was plenty of discussions about the various seeds, uses in recipes, flavours, experiences of growing and eating. Children eat a variety of fruit and veges at brain break time (if possible). There is often subtle pressure from peers to have a fruit o
The class were very excited to have the kit, and set it up. There was a delay as we had other curricular and school wide events that needed to happen first! Then we got into growing. The children liked matching the herb/vegetable seed to their names. There were great discussions about particular seeds that were unfamiliar to some or many. Ideas for use within dishes were shared. Many parents were brought in to see the growth of seeds, and other activities. As we were donated more seeds, we have been able to grow for our school vegetable garden, and some were grown and taken home.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Students loved the matching game and identifying veg. My students loved being members of The Little Garden League. They felt like they were in a special club and we had a secret hand shake and everything. They really enjoyed watching their plants grow and took them home to continue the learning. All the resources were great! Thank you!

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? As mentioned above it tied in nicely with Healthy Eating. We also integrated it with literacy. We wrote about what we had done and our observations of the plants growing. We used the syndicate worm bin to feed our growing plants. We also enjoyed the story

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? This kit preceded a visit by the Life Education Trust to our school where our children focused on healthy eating. Thus the kit was nicely integrated with the children's on-going learning. The children have tried some seeds and vegetables in the classroom
This kit complimented our How Does Your Garden Grow? Inquiry for the beginning of the fourth term. Because the kit came out in the school holidays our school asked if we could delay the start and provide feedback at the end of our Inquiry. This was approved. It was an excellent resource to begin our Inquiry. The children enjoyed receiving the badge. They enjoyed planting the seeds, watching the soil expand and then waiting for the first shoots to appear. It's so helpful having supporting videos and information, too. We extended the kit, planting bean and sunflower seeds. We created animal plant pots using recycled milk bottles. Our school grounds has a lot of kowhai trees and we looked at ways to crack the hard seed coat to encourage them to germinate. We had 100% success with this. The children are about to paint a terracotta pot to put these in and take home as a gift.
