In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? The students wrote about their observations as they watched the plants grow. The students read about the lifecycle of plants and completed sequencing activities in the reading sessions.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Using the plants for cooking - garden to table opportunities.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? As the plants took a while to grow the focus was more on plant growth, rather than healthy eating. Only just now that the plants are fully grown, we can start using the plants food to talk about healthy eating.

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? In writing we used the characters to write stories of their adventures. We also used some of the veges to write instructions for cooking.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Researching new foods

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Learning new vegetables that they hadn't heard of before. In garden to table kids were more likely to eat veges that they had learned about.

“My class loved the LGL - they engaged from the get go with the fun story and characters. Getting their own badges and joining the club was a real highlight, as was planting and caring for their own seedling. They also loved the codes and veggie patch match game! All around an awesome resource, with weeks of great content for my class.”

“We completed the little garden league as a team at school. It was amazing that the children had some experiences to share with their peers outside of the classroom. They enjoyed the simple processes of planting, learning about the lifestyle of a seedling growing into a plant and the importance of eating and growing vegetables. This definitely helped us think about healthy eating and the benefits of having a healthy lifestyle. The little garden league is definitely something I want to continue yearly as a junior teacher! Great benefits for our Tamariki.”

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? There was lots of discussions around what is healthy eating and nutrition and what benefits it can awhi your healthy living lifestyles.

“We were super excited to receive our super secret package in what was a funny start to term 3 with what was happening around the world. We handed our pack to our tuakana who were super excited to see who had green fingers in their akomanga. They were able to see the process of germination to replanting to our kai tables. This was great kit and we learnt lots to fill our kete of knowledge. Ka mau te wehi!”

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? The kit had a strong connection to Science but the context provided so many opportunities to link to Oral, Written and Visual Language. We found opportunities to link to Visual Arts also and talked about how and why some communities have a community garde

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We were able to closely observe the process of seed germination and, if our greenhouse and seedlings hadn't been stolen, could have then talked about pollination and the role of bees and other pollinators in our gardens.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Students were very engaged in talking about the vegetables they liked and disliked. We could encourage lots of open mindedness about trying new things.

“My Year 1 &; 2 students found the content so engaging! They really loved all the story that went into the kit. The photo of the original members encouraged us to create our own LGL names and the adored the badges. The instant soil tablets were very smart and, apart from the cardboard plant labels, we found everything else very well suited to the kit. Out students loved watching the seedlings grow and were excited to talk about different and, new, vegetables! Thank you so much, School Kit!”
