I have given out the wee seedlings and the children are growing them in the class at the moment. We had some spare ones and we have put some in the dark and one has no water and the other one has been saturated with water. We have one that is being properly looked after using lots of sunshine, a bit of water and some children sit and talk to it in the morning! Their choice! We also have one each that we are caring for too.

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? In term 2, we talked about life cycles withing bugs and animals, so being able to do the same thing with plants was right what they needed in term 3/4. With lockdown 2 happening in Auckland, it was quite hard to get the kids interested in their learning a
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? My class has taken their plants home now, and it is their responsibility to make sure that they grow. Some of them have started showing me pictures of vegetables. We have started talking about bees and how important they are to our ecosystem.
In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? My class understood how plants grow and why. They have been really excited about seeing their vegetables grow. We have had many opportunities to discuss why certain types of food are healthier than others, and taught our buddy class why it is so important
My class and I really enjoyed using this kit. The resources were really well thought and engaging for the children. My kids got hooked when they had to send their application letter, and even wanted to send individual letters to their favourite as well as least favourite vegetables, telling them how they could be even better. However, working in a junior classroom, my students have struggled with the size of some of the resources (ex. the cards with the code on them; they kept on losing theirs so I didn't up printing bigger ones that they could keep at their tables. Similarly, the badges broke really easily, unfortunately. Regardless, my kids have really loved the Little Garden League kit.
