In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? science most definitely covered fully, cooperative learning, health and well being, literacy with making signs, reading packages, watching YouTube clips to gain further understanding, observational drawings and measurement for numeracy. :straight_ruler:

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Maintaining our vegie garden, seasonal planting for bulbs, continuing to care for our playground and to take responsibility in keeping it beautiful and enjoyable for all. Student ownership and agency at its best!!

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? This kit encouraged us to learn more about the vegetables we were growing. We made soups in the classroom using different veggies and we all took turns peeling and preparing and then all tasted new foods!! The children lived learning about how to care for

“This amazing kit provided so much stimulation and excitement for our 29 New Entrants. They became inspired to grow many more plants and sprout seeds from this ignition activity! The kit is so beautifully laid out and the items met our needs perfectly! The topic was perfectly matched for us, the season and our learning level. The badges are a great hit and the children wear them with pride! Our playground has never looked so amazing after we planted out our seedlings in our newly created vegie garden and out spring bulbs in buckets not to mention the potatoes in tyres and the newly hatched chicks ... the children are taking such pride in their environment making signs to admire and protect their plants. They water each day with such enthusiasm and many little learners have really thrived with this project thank you”

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? The kit has fit with our inquiry of Hauora very well. Allowing us to connect and interlink plants and humans and showing the similar things that we need to grow and develop.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Children have been talking about building their own gardens and introducing different vegetables at home to the whole family.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? The children here at school are fantastic and trying new healthy food as we have garden to table here at school, however it has added value because our junior school is now able to be involved by providing more yummy vegetables to grow in our garden.

“What a fantastic resource. It fits well within our garden to table resource here at Cannons Creek School. It supports our younger children to care for our environment and be mindful of what a plant needs to grow. My class have made the connection that plants are very similar to us as people. We have been learning about emotions in class and I have seen children talking to the plants to provide encouragement for it to grow. I have seen great leadership in caring for our garden. We are now at the point where we are moving the plants to our greenhouse. It has been a wonderful experience for the class. The children really enjoyed the songs and stories that were provided and the secret messages became part of our writing lessons. Thank you very much.”

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? We looked at science, maths, incorporated it in writing and oral language.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We discussed the different ways we can use what we have grown, what could we do with what we were not likely to use. Very interesting conversations.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Students were really proud to have been looking after the plants and watching them grow. It does seem to have encouraged a slight change in some students lunchboxes!

“Our class had a great time talking about all the different things that we could grow. We discussed how some people don't have room for gardens and how they could grow things to eat and use as well. Students really enjoyed seeing what we had, talking about the different ones. We took some time to look at ones that some had never seen before which was really cool. They have enjoyed watching them start to grow and you can see the disappointment with the ones that have not yet taken off. Great fun had overall and parents are enjoying seeing the plants growing on the weekly photo on Seesaw!”

“We loved this kit. The children were so engaged, they loved the mystery element, and then all of the prediction and experimentation with growing and tasting. The code cracking has become a favourite past time and I am having to make up more challenging messages everyday. A fabulous fit for our play-based learning environment with all of the oral language generating activities. The activities were targeted perfectly for this age group...the kids definitely have a new found love for veges. Thank you.”
