What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? The children will start to get excited again when we plant them in the ground. They are already talking about what they are growing in their gardens at home.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? We didn't really understand the difference between fruit and vegetables and now we look in our lunch boxes to see what healthy fruit and vegetables we have for lunch

“At St Joseph's school in Piwakawaka class (New Entrants/Year1) we have been learning about Spring. We were so excited to start growing our Little Garden vegetables, and they are getting bigger. We will combine ours with an older class and plant them outside in the garden when the time is right. Thank you so much for sending them to us.”

How effective was this kit in promoting healthy eating in your classroom?

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? We are in the process of becoming an enviro school so this goes really well with it. Also the crack the code for literacy and we wrote character descriptions for our vegetables. We also made art.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We will taste some of the vegetable we grew ourselves. Also families are growing them at home now with their children. Hopefully the children will do this in the future themselves.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? We learned some new vegetables and they didn't know how long it would take for them to grow. They thought they all took the same time!

“Super school kit! Kids are really looking after their seedlings and are amazed how they grow. We got the local (Gore) New World come and they gifted us a planter box with bags of potting mix. When are seedlings are big enough we will plant them in there. The next step will be trying to taste some!! Thank you so much school kit and New World. From Te Tipua School.”

The hands on experience of planting and nurturing the Little Garden seedlings has created an opportunity to further support the learning we have done and will continue to do around healthy eating and nutrition. “Great idea. Maybe a timeline teacher guide. It has felt quite flimsy and open compared to more structured kits I have received, however I also understand this allows for a wider variety of ages and more flexibility for teachers, especially at this time of the year.”

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? There is the opportunity to look at different recipes using the veges we have grown our selves. It was also a perfect supplement to our topic of kitchen chemistry and diversity around food grown and eaten around the world.

“My class of boys loved this kit. The mystery and intrigue with setting the scene followed by the science behind the soil tablet had them hooked from the beginning. They have taken great care of the seedlings, keeping them watered and checking on the growth everyday. They were brave enough to try a variety of new vegetables and took great pride in teaching others how to grow plants. We can't wait to take them home and care for them. The secret messages were a great way to keep them excited while we waited for the plants to sprout.”
