What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Cooking at home with the family

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? While we were able to educate the students on healthy eating and nutrition it would be nice to also wait until the veges are harvested and then answer this question. We are hoping to have some sort of shared kai using our harvest.

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? The big bonus in this kit was how the students worked together, developing their social and collaborative skills.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Future learning may include preparing and cooking the vegetables grown as a part of Little Garden League. We have done some literacy work themed around vegetables and fruit and I'm sure the learning has gone home also.

As a 'Garden to Table' school, this kit confirmed and reinforced the messages that they regularly get when tending our school gardens or cooking in our kitchens the produce from our gardens the importance of caring for our soil, growing healthy food and t

“The secrecy surrounding the Little Garden League Club was excellent for my junior kids. With a little bit of drama, anticipation and acting the children were engaged and excited. The fact that there were badges and secret emails proved that it was a 'real' club and they were totally fooled! The little garden kits were easy to use for little hands and it was great to see the shoots poking through the soil.”

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? It covered most if not all learning areas. I liked how it linked with our Matariki Unit we had last term in terms of sustainability and harvesting of crops.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We are going to look at how we can cook our veges and simple recipes they can try at home.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? When we began I had students who thought fruit and veges only came from the supermarkets.

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? We used this for writing, reading and science. Every time we did learning around it the whole class was engaged.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? The class went home and started doing their own garden. They know what to do in the future with gardening and looking after our bodies.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? With students growing their own vegetables they are so keen to eat them after and also keen to try the vegetables they had not heard of. We discussed what they need to grow and matched it to us. We need 'water, sunshine, good food (soil) to grow

“FANTASTIC BOX!! The class absolutely loved the box. We first started with writing what could be inside the 'Mystery Box'. As a class we then opended it and had great conversations around the items. The class shared their prior experience as well with growing plants. They all wrote their 'application letter' and got presented their budges which was VERY COOL and they are still wearing them. Each student planted their vegetable. Very cool hearing 'Oh I love that vegetable'. We discussed how planets best grow and what we need to grow. Every morning they all go to the plants to see what has grown and water theirs. This box has provided endless learning and 'WOW' to the class. Parents are also coming in to see what is happening as they have heard so much about it.”

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? Surveying and graphing our classes favourite fruit, linked in with our school wide sustainability theme, coding using the secret messages and creating our own codes.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Learning more about growing our own food as the seedlings get replanted into our school gardens and not to mention eating the vegetables and following recipes to cook with them.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Children learning the difference between fruit and vegetables and where their food actually comes from.
