In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? Writing - application letters Reading - decoding secret messages, finding the same pictures - vege patch match.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? The class love their letterbox. They suggested writing letters to each other and posting them in the box. Hopefully we will be able to do some cooking lessons with our produce!

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? My class really took their pledge seriously. There were stories of children going on playdates and being brave and trying new foods. Normally in class we would have done some taste testing of new and unusual foods but we weren't allowed to this year.

“This school kit was fantastic. Being an Auckland school it was so lovely to come back after our latest lockdown and have such an exciting, fun topic to focus on. The resources that were supplied were excellent. I teach a year 3 class and I wondered if they would buy into the whole LGL that they would have to apply to but they really did, and asked me daily if I had heard whether they had been accepted or not. Our 3 year 3 classes all signed up for this kit and every morning it was the same in each class - children standing around the tray looking to see which plants had popped up in the night.”

“I'm in N/E and some of the resources are a bit too hard for the students. Maybe have a couple of different age level appropriate option. The garden idea is great and the students are able to see how things grow. Everything arrived on time so that is a bonus”

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? Due to being a new entrant class, we did not link this with other learning areas. I can see how with even slightly older children I would though. Meaurement of plants, statistics; favourite vegetable. Literacy opportunities were provided with the recourse

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We are looking forward to doing some cooking / eating with the vegetables we have planted. We will do shared writing about this

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Children have enjoyed learning from each other about different vegetables. When one child says that a vegetable is delicious or their favourite, the other children are more inclined to give it a go!

“My new entrant class have absolutely loved being a part of the little garden league. They were so excited to join the club, and even more so planting the seeds. They are loving that the seeds are growing so quickly and looking forward to taking them home. Constructive feedback would have been for start date to be earlier so that we would have the whole term to watch them grow in class, as opposed to having the kids need to take them home to care fore over the holidays. The children are very much looking for want to eating so new vegetables!”

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? -more code breaking and secret codes- my class loved this part of the kit -will lead into instructional writing- making things with vegies next term -science- my class are keen to learn more about growing, seeds and plants.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? The children in my class have been trying vegetables and loving different tastes. They have loved growing their own vegetables and many have continued it on at home- starting vegie gardens. Great story about people forgetting how to grow and taste vegies

“Absolutely amazing learning, creative activities and loved by the children (and their teacher). Really meaningful activities- the children loved the LGL story, photo, pledge badges and loved being members of the club and growing their own vegetables. My Year 2 class enjoyed breaking the codes and even made up their own codes.”

“The Little garden kit was an awesome kit to get our students to learn about growing their own garden. The oral language that it produced was amazing and it got them thinking about what they might like to try in the way of veges and herbs. Having this Kit come out when the little garden is in stores had a lot of my students trying to get their parents to start their own garden. They have learnt that growing a garden with vegetables aren't the frozen kind they get in store and they are tastier than the frozen kind too. I have had a lot of students eating more fruit and healthier sandwiches. The information that came with the kit was awesome and really got the students thinking about different aspects of the world and how things grow and survive.”

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? We have used this in writing, for following instructions and as a co-operative exercise.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? The children have enjoyed working in small groups completing some of the tasks eg making up their own codes for their names and then having the class try and crack the codes. This is an activity that I will be adding into my reading rotation for term 4

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? I am using this kit as part of our keeping ourselves safe &; healthy. We are making a healthy snack tomorrow using vegetables shown in the kit.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Nutrition and understanding the importance of eating healthy. How easy it is to actually grow your own vegetables.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? So a lot of my students hadn't tried different the different veges. So I brought some in for them to try. It was brilliant for them to try things they didn't even know about.
