How effective was this kit in promoting healthy eating in your classroom?
In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? Tied in with 'Our Whenua' unit of learning on how we use and care for our land in NZ. This was a Science/Social Study enquiry. We also used the kit in Maori Language week as a way to learn new food vocabulary.
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We are now going to plant our seedlings and watch them grow and hopefully produce some healthy kai for us!
In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? We got the children to sample the vegetable of the seeds we had planted and many hadn't tasted some. It was a great way to introduce vegetables to children as a tasty alternative snack.
My new entrant class loved planting the seeds and watching them grow. We had a taste of what the vegetable would look like and all of this worked in beautifully with 'Our Whenua' enquiry about how we look after and use our land in NZ.

Thank you for sending our class a Little Garden school kit. The children have learnt so much about growing vegetables and the names of different vegetables. The codes and story behind the 'Little Garden League' hooked the children in and made them very excited to grow their vegetable, protect it and most importantly taste new vegetables.

The Little Garden kit was presented in an interesting, engaging and creative way! What a wonderful story. Our class loved the extra elements of codes and letters as well as the learning from growing seeds. What a valuable resource - all presented beautifully! Many students then asked parents to shop at New World so they could also have other varieties of seedlings at home too - this shows how much they loved the planting and watching the growth!

I even had parents telling me how their children had started to eat their Veggies! I did supplement the resource with other materials such as posters and books. We also experimented with growing plants from veggie scraps.
