How effective was this kit in promoting healthy eating in your classroom?
In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? Literacy - Writing plant diaries, finding and reading books about plants/vegetables. Maths - timeline of plant growth. Technology - creating a garden for the seedlings to be planted in.
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Creating a garden environment to plant the seedings. Sparking the idea of a school wide pea growing competition. Making healthy food out of what we grow (salad, sandwich ect..)
In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Given tamariki an understanding that you can grow food. The cycle of a seed, to seedling, to plant, to kai you can harvest and eat. They have learnt about different vegetables they have never heard of or eaten before.
We have loved watching our little garden grow. From planting the seeds, watching their leaves poke out of the soil, to now where they are big enough to transplant into a vege garden. We each had a designated plant to grow and we learnt that they needed water, sunlight and oxygen to grow big and strong. We are excited to eat them and get healthy!

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? This has been good, can be linked in with science, technology, reading, writing, and mathematics. It has made a great intergrated unit that my kids enjoy.
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? This is a great kick start to the new garden to table programme that will be starting next year at my school.
In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Students are aware of foods that are not healthy and ones that are. It is good for children to know where veggies come from and the benefits they have.
This is a great way for kids to learn and watch things grow. I cant wait to be able to use some of these with the kids in cooking next term. This is a great oppourtunity and experience for the kids in my class.

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? We read and learnt about the science of growing plants and what plants need. We linked the tracking of the growth of the plants to Measurement learning in Maths.
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? The children are really interested in growing now and want to grow more plants. We could still go further with learning about healthy eating.
In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? The children learnt a little more about vegetables and where they come from. There were some new vegetables for the children that they hadn't heard of before. We had conversations about trying new food and respecting the different food that others eat, e.
The school kit was fabulous - the kids thoroughly enjoyed planting their seedlings and taking on the challenge to join the club. I gave the badges to the children after they had 'earned' them by looking after their seedlings for a fortnight. The clubhouse post box was difficult to cut up when making and took quite some time out of a teacher's already busy day.

How effective was this kit in promoting healthy eating in your classroom?
In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? We wrote our letters to become part of the little garden league, drew and painted a time line of our seedings (from seed to plant), and we used science to understand how and why they grow.
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Students will be taking the seedings home and nursing for their veges and herbs. Once they have fruited they will be bringing them into the classroom and sharing how the food tastes. From this they will paint their veges and write about how they taste.
In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? It has been good for students to understand where their food comes from (seeds growing into veges and herbs) and how these impact on their health. With us being in a year 2 class, we talk about the importance of veges and why we should eat them, but we di
My students have been loving their seedings. With the introduction to the little garden, they were really excited about getting to plant and see their seeds grow. Every day they are looking and talking about their little garden, which I use to create writing and art opportunities. The resources online have been plentiful, with the students really liking the code breaker.

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? Clues- reading, becoming a member-writing, measuring plants- maths, counting seeds- maths, nutrition- science and wellbeing
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? The kids liked the code cracking so we will do that again. We will do some more writing and oral language discussions as the vegetables grow.
In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Willingness to try new vegetables. When anyone grows anything we will all give it a try. Good but in for trying new food.
I found this a great and exciting package. The kids were all talking vegetables which was so nice to see and they were talking about their gardens at home too. I think this was a great resource and my year 2 class were very happy and engaged.

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? It tied in well with Te wiki o Te Reo Maori, where we learnt the Te Reo names for vegetables in our kete. We learnt parts of a plant e.g. the roots, stem, leaves and which parts of the plant are eaten. The children loved writing about their experiences.
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? When our vegetables have fully grown, we hope to cook and eat them. We will need to find out which vegetables are eaten raw and which ones need cooking.
In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? It exposed them to new vegetables to try.
My class loved the little garden kit. They especially loved the hands on aspect of planting and looking after their plant. As a teacher, I found this to be an easy way to garden! We buddied up with a Year 5/6 class to help us with the planting and to crack the codes. The websites recommended were a great way to spark discussions and further inquiry about vegetables and how they are grown and eaten.
