The kit has been great. We have used it under the idea of kaitiaki and the idea of challenge - challenge to grow the plants, challenge to look after our environment. The links between technology and the items the children could create were great. The post-box house was a bit tricky to construct and made more robust with some tape. The students have found this unit of work engaging and meaningful.

My new entrant class was very excited to receive our special secret box We waited a little while before we started our plants as our school is very close to our mountain in Taranaki and it wasn’t very sunny in our classroom. The children made their pledge and was excited to have two plants to look after. We are using this special resource to help us learn about spring and plants. Thanks so much for the secret box my class are really enjoying them.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Continue to look at Healthy Eating and more planting of seeds next Term.
In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? The taste aspect is something I still would like to develop further next term. It has improved their awareness of healthy eating and discussions about which new vegetables they have tried.
The Class and I have loved the Little Garden Kit. The application form, club house, you tube clips of folding the envelope etc... all inspirred and excited the children, the buy in has been 100%. I tied it in with Te Wiki O Te Reo Māori and the class and I have also learnt the names of the vegetables in te reo. The seedlings are growing beautifully and we will repot them to take home to our whānau. It has also inspired us to grow other seedlings and develop a mini plant inquiry topic. Thank you so much.

How effective was this kit in promoting healthy eating in your classroom?
In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? It tied in well with Te wiki o Te Reo Maori, where we learnt the Te Reo names for vegetables in our kete. We learnt parts of a plant e.g. the roots, stem, leaves and which parts of the plant are eaten. The children loved writing about their experiences.
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? When our vegetables have fully grown, we hope to cook and eat them. We will need to find out which vegetables are eaten raw and which ones need cooking.
In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? It exposed them to new vegetables to try.
My class loved the little garden kit. They especially loved the hands on aspect of planting and looking after their plant. As a teacher, I found this to be an easy way to garden! We buddied up with a Year 5/6 class to help us with the planting and to crack the codes. The websites recommended were a great way to spark discussions and further inquiry about vegetables and how they are grown and eaten.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Students have been encouraging their whanau to grow their own vegetables. The motto Grow, Protect and Taste has been very effective for students to remember.
The tamariki enjoyed being apart of a ";garden club";. They thoroughly enjoyed handling the seedlings. The badges and the pledges were a real hoot. Room 9 and 10 adored the story about the Founding members of the LGL. The children were excited to get the codes sent through to them. It made them feel very important.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? A number of my children didn't now difference between veg and fruit or where or how they grew. It was a real eye opener! it was a challenge to get them to eat the vegetables, bit we had 'challenges' &; rewards for taking sneaky bites , dunked in homemade
1. Loved the kit. 2. Found the letter box really hard to cut and assemble- nearly snipped my skirt! However, my class of 5 year sold were so excited about 'posting ' their letter s to Mr New World. 3. Nearly pulled my eyes out folding the envelope, but taught resilience! So grateful for the video with the steps. 4. Have repurposed the letter box! Great for letters to grandparents, ";I wonder...";questions .... 5. So comprehensive. The secret codes were fabulous and everybody had buy in- we felt pretty special like FBI agents when we discovered the code and explained it to our buddy class -who are in year 6! Everything was in there. So appreciated having a few extra pots , as we had over zealous waterers who disintegrated the first pots. 6. Children were stoked that they got these before than came out in shops and had several families buying extra groceries so they could growing more.

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? we are learning about sustainability as well so this ties in with our learning.
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We the vegetables mature we will harvest them and eat them either cooked (most likely) or some may find it nice eating them raw.
In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Yes they did pea planting last year and enjoyed eating their fresh peas for morning tea and lunch-time and some just snacked on them when they arrived at school waiting for the classroom to ope.
The children were excited about their kit. We reviewed our last year's learning about planting our peas and then eating them as they matured for morning tea and lunchtime. So some knew what to do with their seeds, while the others who were new to this learning watched, listened and copied their classmates. They dug up some soil and put it in their container. They made a hole int the soil, placed the seeds in the hole and covered them with more soil. Later they watered the container and we are now waiting for them to sprout.
