How effective was this kit in promoting healthy eating in your classroom?

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? We studied being Guardians of our Planet and the need to recycle, reuse and be sustainable with what we eat and how we need to use worm bins and compost to recycle our waste. Right now we are studying Minibeasts and their enormous impact on our gardens.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? The need to eat food that is fresh and healthy. That having our own gardens is fun and so rewarding. That plants, vegetables and fruit are so important for sustainability.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Our school promotes healthy eating and we have a brain food session at 10 am every morning where students eat fruit or vegetables as a snack. They were able to see the seeds that were the beginnings of some of the brain food they were eating.

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? wwe were able to easily incorporate this kit into our 2020 theme of Guardianship. We also included the activities in our existing Garden to Table programme

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We will continue to use the kit next year when we visit our local market to purchase fruit and vegetables as part of our healthy eating inquiry.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Our Students were fascinated with how different vegetables looked as seeds and seedlings. Identifying and grouping different vegetables was a vital part of their learning. many of our parents shared how the children were discussing vegetables at meal time

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? We compared and contrasted our experience with the little gardens with an inquiry about man-made technology. There were also linkages to maths and literacy.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Extensions of the many of the concepts we encountered are entirely feasible. Lots of areas to expand on.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Seeing the work that goes into fresh food encouraged the kids thinking about natural food. The excitement and anticipation helped maintain their focus good eating, and sustainable practise.

“Wonderful experience for the kids. They prepared the beds, raised the seedlings, watered, composted and waited with eager anticipation. It's great for them to see the whole cycle. It gives them a greater appreciation for the things they eat and where they come from.”

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? The game helped with this but other than that not really it didn’t fit with our overall focus so we could not give it as much time as we may have liked

“The card game was cute and could be adapted for new entrants but the kit felt a little thin in terms of content and much of what there was, was not suitable for new entrants”

We wrote stories about being Kaitiaki (writing), we gardened (inquiry), we measured growth (maths), we read and cracked the code (reading and maths- problem solving), living world (science) lots of oral lan

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? The children have learnt so many valuable skills that they will be able to continue using. Many of them have become more interested in gardening and have joined our school garden club as a result.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? We had great conversations about the importance of including vegetables into our daily eating.

“My classroom absolutely loved this Schoolkit. They were very excited as soon as it arrived and were eager to start the gardening process and to be part of the club. The lesson plans were clear and easy to follow and suitable for my year 2 class. It tied in nicely with our Schoolwide Kaitiaki (being a guardian of our environment) unit. It allowed us to go through the plant growing process- from seed to seedling and then finally being able to plant it in the garden. The children were very passionate about looking after their plants and took pride in this. There was a lot of excitement each time the children checked their plants and could see that they had grown. This kit allowed for many wonderful learning experiences across the curriculum. Thank you very much for allowing us to be part of this experience.”
