In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? We have made, and are continuing to make, graphs and measuring exercises in Maths around the growth of our plants. This includes the length of time different plants are taking to sprout.
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We are looking forward to using our plants in food technology, using the recipes we have picked up from New World. We will also be doing art work around the vegetable characters.
In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? We have been discussing different vegetables and herbs and how they affect our bodies. We have been using the analogy of how a food looks like the body part it helps to grow (e.g. broccoli for the lungs, carrot rounds for the eyes). Our students need lots
This is such an awesome project to do with my class. We are preparing for next term's inquiry which is based on Maori Kai, so it is perfect timing. We have begun with half of the pots, so we can the progression through a few weeks. I teach a special education new entrant class, so some of the written and reading work is a bit tricky for them, but I have a broad range of abilities, and I love how this kit is so adaptive for ages and abilities. Everyone is able to get lots of learning from the visuals and the fact that the whole kit is so hands on. We are sending some of our plants home for the holidays with the students after repotting them, and we are also lucky enough to have some planters gifted to our school, so we can carry on with our project right outside our classroom. It really couldn't be a better kit for our learning right now, so thanks so much School Kit!

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Children are aware of a range of vege and fruit options. As they are involved in the process - growing to cooking they are more willing to have a 'little try'. We have a diverse mix of cultures, allergies and philosophies around healthy eating in our room
My year 1 learners have been fully engaged in the seeds and the narrative. Each day they come into class to see what has germinated and their oral language is growing! They have loved the narrative and solving the codes - this has led into some fab maths and science learning! Many thanks!!

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? This kit gave cross curricular learning opportunities in the sense we could look at living things, science and then follow through to literacy. There is also opportunity for math and literacy. The arts could also be easily included.
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Future learning from this kit will be to keep and maintain healthy living choices. Also be brave to try new things.
In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? The kit has improved awareness and will give the tamariki a opportunity to try some different healthy options. It also brings awareness to how growing healthy options can be easy.
As a beginning teacher I have found this kit very helpful. The tamariki have really enjoyed watching their seedings sprout. Something they really enjoyed and were very engaged in was the code cracking and the suspense of having to wait for the next message to come.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? In Term 4 we will be looking further at 5 t a day - eating healthy fruit and vegies. Maths and literacy will also continue as well
In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? They had no idea of vegies that were a bit different. They got to try new vegies and they also learnt about 5 t a day.
This is a great kit for the children and it was very exciting for it to be secret. They loved applying to be a club member and then having a badge. It has been easy to integrate into literacy and maths as well. Total child buy in!

The Garden League was wonderful. It provided rich learning tasks for my Year 1 and 2 class as they were learning about plants and seeds. My extension reading group loved the code cracking messages. The children felt so special putting their applications into the club house and receiving badges. Thank you so much for this opportunity. This is the first time I have used School Kit, and what a successful experience it has been. I appreciate the partnership in helping provide my learners with the best learning experiences.
