This kit was great for covering essential skills: THINKING, USING LANGUAGE SYMBOLS &; TEXT, RELATING TO OTHERS, MANAGING SELF and PARTICIPATING &; CONTRIBUTING. It is always fabulous to take part in inquiries that cover these.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Cooking, reading recipes, maths for measurement etc in relation to cooking. Healthy eating and what we need for our bodies.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? The children were all talking about what the seeds were and what they would grow into. Some were teaching others what went where, such as leeks into a stirfry and that thyme was a herb. It was great to hear them share their knowledge. All are looking forw

“The class loved being a part of the secret club. The badges were a nice touch (though we found them fiddly and easily breakable). They loved the secret messages and using their own code breaker. Watching the seeds grow was fascinating (even for old hands like me!). Getting our hands into soil to repot the first big plants was a great next step too.”

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Next term we are doing living and growing so the kids can relate their learning from this to their new topic.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? We discussed how important healthy eating is for our bodies. We also looked at food in our lunches boxes and what we could change for a healthy option, which same of the kids have now done.

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? Writing prompts. Maths: counting and measurement. Technology: discussion of food prep (not able to do this due to Covid restrictions)

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Garden to table type experiences.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Great. Lots of discussion from favorite vegetable, sharing of ideas, laughter and discussion of what is a vegetable or a fruit.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? This was just the beginning of our unit for Term 4. We will be looking at the parts of a plant, how different vegetables/fruits are grown, how they grow in different conditions, what they need to grow and taking care of more vegetables (we were lucky enou

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? We discussed what vegetables we liked and what ones we didn't like. We talked about how we need vegetables to grow strong and keep healthy.

“What an amazing kit! My class took the club very seriously. It was a great introduction to our term 4 topic which is living and growing. The students learnt about how to care for their plants, the different names for vegetables. We are having a vegetable tasting session with raw vegetables and dip and making a frittata with a variety of vegetables. The students are able to explain how they planted their vegetables, how we take care of them and identify the names. We will be planting them in our students home gardens over the holidays. We transferred what we knew about the vegetables into their poetry this term and created some simile poems to describe the vegetables colour, shape, texture, how we each them e.g the carrot is as pointy as a cone, the broccoli is like a bushy tree. The students have loved the stories too. Thank you for the amazing kit New World and School Kit! We can't wait to carry on our planting and growing knowledge next term.”

We were counting, reading instructions, 1st, 2nd 3rd plants to grow. Drawing what we saw in the changes of our plants,. We leanred what plants need to survive. Writing about our plants.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We built relationships within our Area School. Our trades Academy made planter boxes for us to transplant our plants into. We made goodies for them and wrote a card to thank them. We are going to use some of the vegetables to make kai for the kaumatua i

Children talking about what they have tried and others saying that they want to try it too. We are going to be tasting our vegetables once they have grown and we will share with our kaumatua.
