In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? With my 6 year olds, they were focusing on the learning the names of vegetables over healthy eating.

“Thank you very much School Kit for such an awesome resource. My students were so excited to be a part of the Little Garden League. I love how they wear their LG badges with pride and connect with other classes who are wearing them. The children were so keen to take on the responsibility of preparing the seeds and looking after them. Code cracking was very engaging, giving the students a sense of achievement. I was proud to see my junior students wanting to extend themselves by writing their own code!”

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? Math - measurement. Lots of science. Linked into our writing time. Found books to read which connected with growing vege's, worm bins, compost, etc.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Help the school garden, needs a community to help it grow and be really vibrant. How can we in Room 12 help? Food for worms, water plants, care for the plants in the school environment.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Keen to grow at home. Share with whānau. Try new and different vegetables.

“Children were really engaged and showed enjoyment in watching the soil disc transform. We had been reading 'Jack and the Beanstalk' and growing beans so this was the perfect extension and our little gardens created an amazing garden world inside our class. The children watch as their vege's started to sprout and as they watered them, put them in the sun and cared for them they could see amazing progress. Neat connection with our local community as New World now has them.”

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? We expanded oral vocabulary using the matching game. We also did some numeracy work around counting days 'til sprouting and compared different rates of growth.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We will continue to use the matching game and also consider planting some native flora. We will also be asking student s to complete a ";growing diary"; over the holidays...

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? The kit made a great starting point for discussion about where our food comes from and how much healthy food we eat.

“This kit has be great to encourage our tamariki to think about where their food comes from and to expand on their knowledge of vegetable, herb and flowers that we can easily grow. The kit was an excellent resource to support and promote discussion. The matching game has also been very helpful to extend vocabulary for some of our students.”

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? We did not start this yet as I will plant them in Term 4. I will be doing writing: write the names of the plants. Reading: read the instructions. Science: parts of a a plant. Math: measuring the plants. Art: drawing our plants.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Links across the curriculum, so exciting, we love it! We just need a spot to plant our seedlings at school. 10/10

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? The kids are aware of a wider range of fruits and vegetables. I needed to buy my own fruit and vegetables and bring them in the classroom so the children could understand and eat them. e.g., mint, radish etc. They are learning where their vegetables come

“It is so exciting! The children are loving it! I followed the instructions. I am not growing the seeds in Term 3, I am starting the seeds in Term 4 after the school holidays. If there was no lockdown I would be starting them earlier. There is a lot of discussion prior to planting them.”

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? This kit gave cross curricular learning opportunities in the sense we could look at living things, science and then follow through to literacy. There is also opportunity for math and literacy. The arts could also be easily included.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Future learning from this kit will be to keep and maintain healthy living choices. Also be brave to try new things.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? The kit has improved awareness and will give the tamariki a opportunity to try some different healthy options. It also brings awareness to how growing healthy options can be easy.

“As a beginning teacher I have found this kit very helpful. The tamariki have really enjoyed watching their seedings sprout. Something they really enjoyed and were very engaged in was the code cracking and the suspense of having to wait for the next message to come.”

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? We did Art with Vincent Van Gogh sunflowers. We grew bean seed to see them germinate inside a jar. We used bean seeds for Maths and would measure the growth of our plants after the holidays. The videos were awesome too. My 5 year olds especially loved the

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? The love of planting seeds and growing our own veges. The idea of spring and new growth and time to plant. The resposibility and care required to nurture our babies. All so valuable lessons. Thank you so much. Your work was amazing and so appreciated.
