How effective was this kit in promoting healthy eating in your classroom?
In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? This unit brought in maths, science, health, writing, reading activities and plenty of oral language development. What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We learned about the studies people have done on plants and how negative words and energy have been proven to have a negative impact on them. This has helped my class make the link between their words and how it affects the environment around them and und
In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Lots of rich discussions have taken place on the benefits of vegetables. This is ongoing and we are excited about how we can learn more about ourselves as we begin to try new vegetables later this week!
Such a terrific kit with so many exciting, fun and ongoing learning opportunities. I work in a very diverse school and a lot of the children had never seen some of the vegetables they were planting. It will be exciting to see how their learning progresses as their plants grow and are at the point of harvesting!

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Garden to Table Exploring different recipes Trying new things
In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? My students are so much more aware of the health benefits different vegetables provide.
The Little Gardens are a fabulous resource to incorporate into your teaching and learning programme. We have loved learning about the different vegetables, herbs and pansy flowers. Researching the health benefits has made some of the students in my class realise how important eating vegetables are. We loved sharing our favourite vegetable recipe too. Some of the selection of vegetables and/or herbs such as borage were new to us so we enjoyed learning how we could use borage once they are fully grown. We are looking forward to maintaining our pledge to the vege and looking after our plants during the holidays. Excited to see what they bring back after the holidays.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Future learning will continue next term when the plants have grown further and we can begin to harvest them. We will look into recipes we can use to make healthy food. We will create plant containers to carry our plants home/garden boxes.
In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? The students enjoyed the planting process and we talked about the benefits of growing our own vegetables. As the plants are not at the harvesting stage yet, we haven't quite delved into the nutrition and healthy eating side of the learning yet.

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? We used this as a provocation station, initially set up as an option, but it was taken on by the whole class. Literacy/Maths: Filling in a form is a learning experience we don't often do and the children took it very seriously - they really wanted to bel
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Wow, we really need more time! Right now we are discussing repotting seedlings and who will care for them over the holidays. The idea of responsibility - protecting - and seeing a project through to the end is more important to some than to others. They a
In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? We focused on how important vegetables are for our bodies as far as providing fibre, minerals and nutrients and particularly pushed the 'Taste' element of the LGL promise, being brave to try a new flavour. Many children eat only a narrow range of vegetabl
A great idea to take an existing community action (even if it is promoting a particular supermarket!) and increase its educational value. The children have been very excited about this learning - the badges, the codes, the growing, protecting and especially tasting - they've taken it very seriously! We've even had Little Garden League Fairytales written at home and a lot of other little gardens being tended outside of school. A perfect time of year for this to happen with our other school gardens starting to take off as well.

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? Oral language, writing and news - sharing what our whānau are doing at home in their garden.
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We will continue to have involvement with our school garden and I will endevour to create a similar 'kit' next year for my class.
In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Having an idea of where their veggies can come from and that food can be grown and produced themselves. Hauora not only means fueling your body but mind also, it is great for mental health to garden and be outdoors. This kit has helped with provocations f
The little garden kits that were sent out were amazing and so engaging. It is hard as a teacher to organise all the components of a gardening unit but the little garden kits make it so easy to just pick it up and run with it. The de-coding activities were engaging for writing and the kids loved having their own seedling and began talking about the ones they had got from New World and planted at home. Whānau loved the learning going on and supported their children with this

How effective was this kit in promoting healthy eating in your classroom?
In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? We have looked at aspects of science (living things, classification), maths (measuring, sorting), literacy (keeping growing diaries), art (drawing, painting and printing) as well as so many opportunities for hands on life skill development.
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We can continue to care for the plants as they grow and then use them to cook meals / food. This has helped give students skills in gardening etc that they can use throughout their lives.
In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Some had no idea about different fruits, vegetables and herbs. We have a healthy mini snack each day and it has encouraged students to try different foods.
This has been an amazing kit for getting the students involved in growing, gardening and all things nature! It has sparked our inquiry which has gone into plants, fruit, vegetables, healthy eating, growing, gardening, garden creatures and mini beasts and also birds and nests! The students are loving watching their plants grow and it's the first thing that they check on in the morning when they arrive at school. Parents have given feedback that their children are really enjoying this learning and talk about it all the time at home and want more fruit and vegetables on the shopping list. It has also encouraged them to help in the garden at home.
