Little Garden League 20 Reviews

Thank you very much for the little garden kit, this may be my favourite yet! Besides the HUGE excitement of becoming members, the ceremony getting badges and seedlings and watching them grow, we guessed the items in the box, had a MasterChef name the veggie/herb contest, wrote stories about how our seedlings became part of the league and had a blast filling in the code crackers! Our awesome learning coach also made a different food containing a veg/herb from the kit for a whole week, we had some chive pikelets, beetroot hummus and spinach gnocchi with sage butter to name a few!

Today was full of measuring our plants that are taking off and documenting this in our plant journals! We read through our 3rd clue and the students are super excited to try some vegetables with our class party tomorrow! They will be super brave! We are excited that Harold comes to visit us next term and we are going to extend the learning into his class and do healthy eating as our unit! Room 3 at Lawrence a Area School are just loving this kit!!!

We have had great fun planting our little gardens. We have watched diligently for them to sprout and have been amazed at how fast they have grown. You have created an interest in growing vegetables/food and our little gardeners are looking forward to reaping the rewards.

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? Writing about the LGL club, growing vegetables and LGL members. Maths - measuring the plants as they grew. Reading - Lot's of our readers in class were about growing vegetables or plants. Arts - drawing LGL members and singing some of the songs on the Sch
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? There has been a greater uptake of involvement in our Garden Club
In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? We've learnt about many vegetables unfamiliar to the students and they have encouraged each other to try new foods (not just vegetables). They are always excited to tell me when they have vegetables in their lunchboxes at school.
Our class have loved the excitement around becoming LGL members and growing and looking after their plants. They've really enjoyed breaking the codes, searching books and school for other LGL members. A few of our teachers jumped on board with being LGL members too, to the delight of the kids. The kids have enjoyed learning the names of and recognising different vegetables and seeing pictures of the original LGL members at the supermarket. Thanks heaps for this fun way to finish the school term.

To join our club, the children had to learn the names of at least 5 fruit and vegetables in te reo Maōri, and have learned to ask about each others' favorite fruit and veg. in te reo. We have enjoyed watching the seedlings sprout, and have learned about the process of germination, and the health-giving properties of fresh vegetables.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? They have loved eating their Carla Carrots and Tommy Tomatoes etc at each brainfood time and being 'brave' to try new veggies with great success.
This was a kit that brought such a great source of excitement upon our return back to school after Lockdown 2.0. We took our pledge to the veg and were over the moon to all be accepted into LGL, this membership took our girls to another level of excitement and curiosity around veggies. Our girls rush every morning to measure and witness the growth of their seeds. There were cheers of delight when a new message was to be decoded and lead to the creations of their own messages for their friends. The badge is a source of pride to wear now. Thank you School Kit and New World, your kit has been a highlight for our young girls and has brought about a new excitement around veggies.

My class have absolutely loved being part of the little garden league. We planted our seedlings and have even transferred some quick sprouting ones into our school garden already. Unfortunately I have managed to land myself in hospital with a nasty broken ankle so won't be able to complete the kit with my class. Hopefully the relievers will continue the enthusiasm and love of gardening the children are developing.
