How effective was this kit in promoting healthy eating in your classroom?

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? For math's we made graphs and students favorite types of vegetables and fruits. For art we painted our vegetables on cut up plywood which we used in our gala day.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Students are now wanting a community garden, to not only have for themselves, but to share with everyone in our community. We are now in the process of creating this now. Should be ready by the middle of term 1 2021.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Students who did not new vegetables of food, were now eating and tasting a wide range of fresh fruit and vegies. Parents were shocked that they even tasted these vegetables. But students were happy to try everything!

“Wow!!! This kit was amazing! My students were hooked from day one. We involved our whole school, from year 1-8 (due to my coving principals release every week) All students loved the whole process and wrote some wonderful applications, with some hilarious vegie jokes, which they carried on for the whole week. Planting and then tasting the vegetables afterwards was an experience for all. They enjoyed this so much, it inspired them to write their speeches on why we should have a school garden.”

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? I am just looking forward these students passing on what they know to others, including their families.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? We are a healthy school anyway so this has been a good reminder of nutrition. There a good variety of plants , so there were new ones introduced to my class.

“The students really l0ved the gardens and lots of them did them at home too. We were lucky enough to be given some extras from New World as well as a kit set garden so it really expanded. They have learned about thinning veges so the others that are left grow well. We are still on our tasting journey as it has turned into our Inquiry for this term. We run a healthy school program already so the students are pretty switched on when it comes to fruit and veges.”

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? not only Science but We used it for writing - what they can see before and after in Math we used it for Measurement-how long it took them to grow In Art we used the plants for our sketching.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Could they extend these to and from,from the pots to the garden? Maybe to include some measuring tools? Maybe include the various sizes of pots for them to transfer to when the plants starts growing bigger.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? The students became passionate about their vegetable and even had lots of trying new fruits and vegetables at home. They could see where their food was coming from.

“The Tamariki loved the resources. We had lots of fun guessing what was inside the box and then being the keepers of the secret. We planted all the seedlings and collected more throughout the term. Some grew really well and some not so much. This created a lot of curiosity and questioning.”
