In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? Obviously the sciences, the growth was fast so maths, and the slow veg used the concept of time.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We have not yet harvested the vegetables that were transferred to our garden. We looked at pollination and why we need bees

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? The variety of vegetables was an interesting topic for many learners that inky eat carbs.

“The concept and extensions were great, but timing, just before school holidays didn’t work. As a teacher, keeping the gardens alive and thriving did not work well and had to find someone to baby sit the seedlings. They then went mouldy. I’m not sure what we did wrong. It was interesting to compare soils, and also to see where the souls came from. Are these Little Gardens contributing to deforestation? Children also expect instant results, so checking gardens every day was great for the concept of good things take time”

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? Science - helping us utilise our worm tea we make at school. Sustainability - talking about when you plant certain foods. Giving back to one another and caring for our environment.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? The children want to become more involved in the school goal of becoming more mature based for example getting chickens, bees and giving back to the community to carry on developing those core relationships.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? My children already had a really good understanding of what healthy eating means and looks like for them. They were able to encourage outside awareness to there family and friends.

“The children had discussions about how they had done these before through new world so connecting home and school life through conversation. It was familiar but they were able to use it as part of our goal as a school to be able to give more back to one another. Growing our own food which we were able to plant in the community garden.”

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Caring for plants pruning so it produced more could be covered pest control at different times of the year

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? We were looking at environment and looking after plants anyway, so this fitted in with that.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We have garden to table at school so when the kids get older they will be able to use knowledge learnt to the project.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Healthy eating esp in lunches is something we talk about often, taking the seeds home helped make links with home.

“The kids were excited about receiving the seeds and being able to grow their own plants. I have 5 year olds and found that some of the resources and the storyline were quite complex for them to understand. I structured it my own way. I found planting the seeds was quite hard as well, hydrating the soil was messy, the kids tried to take the seed out of the paper wrapper as they wanted to see the seed to understand what they were doing. It was great to have the opportunity to promote healthy eating , but that message was a little lost for my kids. Maybe the kits is designed for older and more able children.”

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? We linked it into our writing, our reading of stories to do with gardening and also maths as we measured and predicted our plants growth. Also linked into science of living things.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Lots more opportunities and interest in gardening and the process of science in growing.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? We had a huge discussion about vegetables and gardening daily. We got to try new vegetables all together. We also linked it alongside our Harold/Life Education visit and chose healthy bodies as our unit.

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? we did art, sketching and drawing collage, food tech making a variety of vegetarian foods, we looked at pests in our gardens and researched companion planting. we wrote letters to the vegetables, and made a big book.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? we will continue with your school garden harvesting, cooking and sharing our vegetables. Make our own recipe book. we will continue to raise seeds and grow them and take them home for gardening at home. we are thinking about having a growing competition f

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? they learnt about new types of vegetables. we built new school gardens and encouraged gardening at home. we tried different recipes and researched about the vegetables we have never tried before and why vegesare good for us.

We used this to make healthy kai and were then able to look at our Maori kai in relation to its healthy qualities, giving us opportun

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? In terms of healthy eating, tamariki could see the benefits in both health, sustainability and affordability. Instant food that is good for you. They were able to see that kai from the garden is not so bad tasting.
