What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Our school had a bee month and a green week coincide with the kit . Children learnt about the relationship between bees and plants. We also learnt about biodiversity in insects and plants and the importance water and plants in our world.

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? We wrote stories about our gardens and the growing process and also learned about the ways to keep our plants alive and what plants need to grow.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? The students will be able to continue to grow their gardens at home and share their learning with their whanau. They will be able help make healthy decisions about what they eat.

“My class loved being part of the programme. The were so excited to receive their badges and wore them every day with pride. They carefully monitored their seedlings and watched as they grew. They were keen to learn how to keep them alive and wanted to know more about healthy eating. Lots collected more seedlings from Mew World and had Little Gardens growing at home. They were very invested in the whole programme. Thank you for the opportunity to be part of such a wonderful programme.”

“My year 2 and 3 class absolutely loved this kit. From the anticipation when receiving the box to taking home their seedling that had sprouted. The kit was a great way to learn about healthy eating and sustainability. There were many opportunities for rich writing tasks. Children loved completing and posting their membership ballots and receiving their special badge.”

“We loved the Little Garden Kit. The secrecy built excitement and interest. The secret codes were fabulous and we even wrote our own secret codes using LGL symbols to another LGL class at another school. It led us to lots of learning in plants, growing and life cycles.”

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? By growing the vegetables ourselves the students understood better where the food comes from. We examined the benefits of eating junk food compared to eating fresh vegetables.

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? Our class was doing Edible Gardens at the same time so this linked in really well. The students planted their vegetables into the school garden. Manuka also enjoyed making their own codes during writing time.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? It is ongoing as the vegetables were planted in our school garden. The students are looking after this each week.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? The kit introduced students to a range of vegetables and herbs which they have never heard of. The students loved coming to school and talking about the vegetables they had eaten for dinner.

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? This kit easily moves from literacy to science and technology and maths. A great practical resource to use at all age levels

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Science work - roots, germination. Maths - data analysis, grid work if mapping out planting in out school planter boxes &; scheduling to make sure there is always vegetables ready at different times.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? It showed them how easy it was to grow your own vegetables and being able to care, look after them and see it happen in front of them.
