What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Possibilities for future learning about other plants and growing. Because of the Auckland drought, saving and collecting water.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? students learnt about vegetables that they had never heard of before. Because they grew them they were willing to give them a try.

“The Children really enjoyed planting their seeds, loved watching the soil expand they thought it was magic. Then eagerly checking daily for growth. It really kept there interest and they were amazed at the different plants how different the leaves looked and the rate of growth. then finally getting to take them home.”

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? We looked at growing and what plants need to grow while we grew our seeds. We also looked at cooking and trying different recipes.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Looking more into the science behind growing as well as more cooking experiences.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? They can tell you about the benefits of eating vegetables and tried many different vegetables. They also learnt the names for lots of different vegetables.

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? Science, reading, writing we also did lots of play around making gardens and ways to look after things including veges as this was a great prompt

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Lots of our kids then wanted to be part of the enviro group at school and look after the gardens and plant new veges.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? They were keen to try new veges! We brought in new veges to try and roasted them in the oven for them too.

“Little Gardens was great, lots of hands on activities that the kids loved. The code crackers were a great idea and kept the kids guessing! We really enjoyed the planting and growing, they are now in our school garden.”

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Share food that we have grown with the community. What other plants/seeds etc can we grow in our school. What plants will attract wildlife.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? The students gained an understanding that they could eat and use fruits and vegetables in a variety of ways, mixed with olther foods. They also understood howbmany fruits and/or veggies thay should eat in a day.

Reading related articles from school journals about classes or ‘green teams’ that had grown and cooked produce from their own school garden. Designing patterns to paint on the wooden garden surrounds. Adding compost to our soil that was made from our frui

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? The children may take all that they’ve learned and inspire other family members to help them grow gardens at home.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Learning about new vegetables and at least giving some (that they’d never tasted before) a try.

“The students were very motivated to plant their seeds and they didn’t have long to wait until they germinated. Seeds like radish were good because they could be picked and eaten after a month or two. It was a very hands-on type of unit of work. The children were keen to keep them watered and then planted them out in our school garden.”
