How effective was this kit in promoting healthy eating in your classroom?
In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? The students were able to write a diary about their plant. We used them as 'models' for our maths problem solving activities. The plants were used for drawing and sketching.
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? The students looked into sustainability and how we can help to feed people who may not have enough food.
In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Because the students had grown the vegetables themselves, they were very excited about trying them. They were interested in all of the different flavours and were keen to try them all.
Our students were thrilled with the plants and were very surprised at how quickly and well they grew. They are now full grown plants and are being enjoyed by their whanau.

This was the first Kit I have tried and my class and I were so excited to open it. It was easy to set up and held our tamariki interest for and extended period of time. We were excited to see the progress in the plants and share our learning with the rest of the school, whaanau and our wider community. We also decided to add a bean seed each to our growing experience which enabled our new entrants to measure growth a little easier than the slower growing plants. By sharing our plants with our local community garden we were able to do something nice for them as we spend a lot of time enjoying their beautiful environment. Tamariki love cracking the codes, what a fantastic idea and even the newest new entrants in my class could do it. A big thank you to New World for supporting this awesome learning experience.
