In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Growing them seemed to make them more curious to try new things - even things we were not growing. In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? Linked to science, oral language and writing. Also used in maths.
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We continued some growing based science activities and healthy eating as we went into term 4.
In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? We learnt the names of some fruit and vegetables that weren't familiar to the children and discussed the names and uses of some herbs and the flowers.
It was a great kit that had everything we needed to grow fruit and vegetables. We have an open plan classroom with two classes of 5 year olds and several very high need children so we needed to think how we would use it to get the most out of it. We based our science around it and focused on observations and oral language and created a display with the growing plants and resources. We had fun decoding the messages and attempting to plant the seeds. The game was not a winner though so they used the cards for writing and in their play.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? The children were surprised at how quickly the plants grew and some of them have enjoyed planting their own gardens at home with their family
The children really engaged with this Kit and loved the set up with joining the Little League Club and especially getting the badge. I They were very surprised and excited to see the soil 'growing' when the water was added and enjoyed the lesson when we planted the seeds. The seeds grew very quickly and at the end ot the term each child got to take their pot home to plant. Some of the children have tended them well at home. The Code Breaker was quite tricky for my New Entrants but we did this as a class and afew got the hang of it.

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? We used it in our writing by talking about our favourite vegetables, sequencing of plant growth and instructions on planting. We looked at labelling and science aspects. We played games with vegetable names when out for PE. We used Maori words for the
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Lots of my class are farm kids so this was a great lead into our Calf Club day. The codes were great for digital curriculum and problem solving opportunities and there was also a great lead into our measurement unit.
In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? I'm not sure there was much emphasis on healthy eating though we did discuss the nutritional importance of vegetables.
This kit was excellent. The children were really engaged with learning how to care for plants and how the plant lifecycle works. It was lovely to see them so excited about the growth of the plants. They especially enjoyed the coded messages and the idea of it being a secret agency. We even learned a little about different vegetables we had not heard of before like borage. This required a google search by one of my 7 year old students.

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? Students tracked the growth of the vegetables and created a growth chart over a number of weeks.

My students loved planting their plants. They looked up to see how long it would take their seed to germinate and excitedly measured to see how much it has grown every second day. They looked after it very well and took it home at the end of the term to be repotted. They are now tasting their produce and sharing their experiences with each other.

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? We drew pictures in art and created posters. We have also written about the instructions for planting etc
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We might use it to collect data in maths, how tall the plants grow or counting how many tomatoes we collect etc.
In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? We talked about what food are healthy etc and talked about what we can get from the different veges
I have some older children in my class so I didn't do the post box as I didn't think it would work for them all. We had great fun planting the veges and we also researched the veges before we planted them and linked it in with a healthy eating unit. It was awesome to see the children getting excited when the shoots started coming and how keen they all were to water them and look after them. Our little gardens are now in the big garden and hopefully they will continue growing well! (I don't have the best luck with plants)
