What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? I would love to do this again and incorporate it more into a healthy eating unit and gardening unit.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? They were excited to try some new veg is after seeing how they grew.

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? Procedural writing - recipes using a vegetable or a few vegetables Te Reo Maori - vegetable names Maths - used the code to create sums

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Inspired by this kit, our syndicate has revived the school vegetable garden and has involved the students in maintaining it. Our next inquiry topic is around the water cycle and we will link the needs of our new plants to this learning.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Many of the vegetables were new to the students. Busy families tend to cook and eat the same few vegetables (if any) so there was a lot of curiosity and learning around that. The Vege Patch Match game was excellent for this as they had to name the matchin

“This kit was wonderful! As a teacher new to NZ this (crazy) year, the mystery and fun generated by the Little Garden Kit was a perfect tool for me to use in the classroom. From having everything provided in the kit (the suspense after it arrived!) to the extensive resources and support materials online, this was ideal to provide many valuable learning opportunities with no pressure on me.”

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Some students are keen to take this further and develop out schools gardens.

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? A lot of maths measurement went on with the watering and height checking.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? The children are very keen to build more gardens in the school to transplant our seeds/seedlings to continue to grow

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Learning about different vegetables and some new vegetables.

“Absolutely Awesome!!! Our little towns community supermarket is a new world, so having all the seedling pots before they hit the supermarket was a highlight for the kids. They really enjoyed all the secret codes to crack and learning about growing, protecting and tasting.”

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? We used the code breaking activities as a follow up for writing and also based alot of our maths questions around these kit.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? This lead us into looking into our own school garden and vegs and the seasons.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Learners were able to make connections to healthy eating but didn't adopts these or relay information back to their whanau.

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? We used the new information we learned as our Writing topic, and used the growth data for our Maths lesson on measurement.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? To explore different type of plants, and not just vegetables. To also learn the different nutrients that food can provide, such as vegetables.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Learning about new vegetables that most of my students have never heard of. They also learned the different ways to take care of their vegetables.

“My students really enjoyed the Little Garden League! They were so excited to grow their own plant, and were very responsible at taking care of them! I think this activity should go on for the next years as it teaches the children responsibility, ownership, and sustainability.”
