What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Real life experiences with growing their own produce, leading to healthier lifestyles to continue into adulthood and share with family and friends.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Students are now more aware about what they are eating each meal it has prompted them to want to eat fresh fruit and vegetables a lot more. I have noticed in their lunchboxes many more healthy choices!

“Students were excited to be able to grow their own fresh produce and see the results of them growing each day. The variety of plants was great and the packaging and set up was easy and economical. The children loved the little stickers with the cute little plants for each one, they enjoyed watering them and learning about each variety and the benefits of them and using each one in a different way for cooking or creating a new meal. They enjoyed learning about the nutritional information and why it is important to be eating fresh healthy whole foods. The unit was easy to follow and the children learnt a lot about growing their own food.”

“I really loved the idea and the beginning of the activity however as it became common and the pots were given at the supermarket I felt like the secret was no so secret. I do know a few people who have kept up their gardens and are doing well. Mine all died. I feel that if you are doing it with schools - if there was a link with the supermarket then they would feel special - like every time they went to bee world they could get a special message or do a job or something secret that act made the school link more fun. What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Caring for plants pruning so it produced more could be covered pest control at different times of the year

“We are very lucky to get the little gardens donated every time new world does this promotion so that in itself wasnt new for some children The videos were engaging for the students and gave them something to look forward to”

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? Maths with classifying, sorting and statistics. Writing up what we were doing. Still life drawing.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Lead us down an inquiry into growing our own at school and sustainable sourcing of food. Led us into ocean sustainability and recycling!

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Some had no idea what a veg/fruit was before this unit. They couldn't name them before and some had never tried certain ones.

“Beautiful kit with engaging resources and perfectly explained teaching sequence. Really easy to implement into our programme and follow up at home with the New World link. Definitely recommend to other teachers. The children fully engaged with the resource, even though some.had only just started school. The level was appropriate and the learning was clear.”

How effective was this kit in promoting healthy eating in your classroom?

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? I used this kit with our ";sustaining and looking after the environment"; concept - some the opportunity to plant and care for something was reinforced by this. It was a great resource to use and would love to do it again.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We have some gardens at schools and now the kids were thinking about and wanting to plant more things and take responsibility for one of the gardens.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? For some children of different ethinic background they were able to learn able foods that they had never eaten. For others it promoted a conversation of vegetable likes and dislikes and the importance of eating them.

“The kids loved growing the seedlings, they kept going to look at them each day and were amazed when they started to sprout.”

How effective was this kit in promoting healthy eating in your classroom?

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? We were looking at environment and looking after plants anyway, so this fitted in with that.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We have garden to table at school so when the kids get older they will be able to use knowledge learnt to the project.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Healthy eating esp in lunches is something we talk about often, taking the seeds home helped make links with home.

“The kids were excited about receiving the seeds and being able to grow their own plants. I have 5 year olds and found that some of the resources and the storyline were quite complex for them to understand. I structured it my own way. I found planting the seeds was quite hard as well, hydrating the soil was messy, the kids tried to take the seed out of the paper wrapper as they wanted to see the seed to understand what they were doing. It was great to have the opportunity to promote healthy eating , but that message was a little lost for my kids. Maybe the kits is designed for older and more able children.”
