In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? They can tell you about the benefits of eating vegetables and tried many different vegetables. They also learnt the names for lots of different vegetables.

How effective was this kit in promoting healthy eating in your classroom?

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? I used this kit with our ";sustaining and looking after the environment"; concept - some the opportunity to plant and care for something was reinforced by this. It was a great resource to use and would love to do it again.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We have some gardens at schools and now the kids were thinking about and wanting to plant more things and take responsibility for one of the gardens.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? For some children of different ethinic background they were able to learn able foods that they had never eaten. For others it promoted a conversation of vegetable likes and dislikes and the importance of eating them.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Before the kit arrived, we were looking at the vegetables and fruits we enjoy eating. The children were able to grow the vegetables by themselves. They know the importance of eating vegetables and have started to bring some vegetables for lunch!

“My class and I were excited to receive this kit! As a school, we were focusing on sustainability this term. The children were able to grow different kinds of vegetables which they have enjoyed.”

“I really loved the idea and the beginning of the activity however as it became common and the pots were given at the supermarket I felt like the secret was no so secret. I do know a few people who have kept up their gardens and are doing well. Mine all died. I feel that if you are doing it with schools - if there was a link with the supermarket then they would feel special - like every time they went to bee world they could get a special message or do a job or something secret that act made the school link more fun. How effective was this kit in promoting healthy eating in your classroom?

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? We used the kit for our Growth/Inquiry so we learned lots about grouping, and labelling and writing about being a vegetable or fruit.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? If we had more time we would've talked and focused on planting and growing. Our main focus was on healthy eating.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? My students are 5yrs old. It was interesting to see how much they knew or didn't know about vegetables.

“My class really loved playing with the cards. They enjoyed learning about different fruits and vegetables. They had to look carefully at the picture to make sure it matched. We used the plants as a gift to their dad/male person in their lives for father's day. We enjoyed creating the cardboard house too.”

Reading related articles from school journals about classes or ‘green teams’ that had grown and cooked produce from their own school garden. Designing patterns to paint on the wooden garden surrounds. Adding compost to our soil that was made from our frui

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? The children may take all that they’ve learned and inspire other family members to help them grow gardens at home.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Learning about new vegetables and at least giving some (that they’d never tasted before) a try.

“The students were very motivated to plant their seeds and they didn’t have long to wait until they germinated. Seeds like radish were good because they could be picked and eaten after a month or two. It was a very hands-on type of unit of work. The children were keen to keep them watered and then planted them out in our school garden.”
