In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? It was very effective in cross-curricular learning ... the children wrote stories about healthy foods, they created gorgeous artworks with them as a vegetable, they read stories including plants in some form or other, eg Jack and the Beanstalk. It was fun

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? As I said before, I didn't teach this part of the curriculum but I'm sure at our next planning meeting we will include future learning from this programme.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? We made this a unit within our Junior Syndicate so it was very effective in improving students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating.

“I team teach with another member of staff who has already submitted a review (as I did not cover this part of the programme) however, I would like to report, the children in our class loved the little garden. They created a gorgeous display in our shared space along with snakes and ivy - was truly beautiful with all their little seedlings growing in the midst. The children could talk about healthy foods and were so excited at the end of the term to take their seedlings home, all were growing. Our children have brain break every day and many of them choose to bring fresh vegetables, some fruit, it's all good. They were so excited to see the fruits of their labours (as was I) and I believe it is a very worthy project. You guys are awesome, thank you all for your hard work.”

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? Lots of maths, literacy and Science were easily incorporated - natural world, measurement, report writing

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Was able to do lots of writing regarding different aspects of this. Life cycles of plants. Changes in their tastes - likes and dislikes and how they can change over time.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? They enjoyed trying new things and encouraged each other to do so as well. Also they enjoyed taking the learning home to share with their whanau

“My class loved every aspect of this kit. The belonging to a club, being responsible for growing and looking after something, learning about and trying new vegetables, incorporating maths such as measurement and seeing results from their hard work.”

We did art - made vegetable characters, we played name the card game with the veges as a reading independent task, it linked very well to our inquiry topic of sustainability, we did maths and measured our shoots and worked out how many days till re pottin

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Digital technologies and coding, we had to use the bee bots to rescue the vegetables etc

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Students were willing to try new vegetables and it was great to see this happening at home more too.

“We loved this kit! All my kids raved about it and were talking to friends at school and family at home about being in a ";special club"; called the LGL. I had done this kit a few years ago, but I loved the new aspect of the code cracking and the learning about the vegetables as most of my students had never heard of many of the veges.”

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? Not only did we do the biology but also the art and technology through creating signs, plus math for plotting

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We where able to do cooking.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? We used this to start off our healthy eating unit and where able to eat things from our very own garden.

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? We did writing about how to plant seeds, and then how they grow. We also did sketching of our plants.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We have not yet gotten into any future learning. However, many of the students continue to talk about gardening they are doing at home, and they keep a close eye on the plants and report growth and changes back to the class.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Students have a greater understanding about where their food comes from and why it is important that we eat a healthy balanced diet.

“Was a great kit to use in class. The students all loved getting outside, watching their plants grow and learning where their food comes from. The secret codes kept them very engaged!”
