In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? Great links to literacy. The code breakers where a lot of fun. We also labelled different vegetables and wrote about our 'little gardens'. This kit had many hands on learning experiences and provided opportunities for oral language.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Literacy, Science - plant life cycles, Health and Nutrition

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Our class has a healthy snack every morning of either fruit or vegetables. This kit linked great and enabled discussions about where their food comes from. We also recently had a lesson around healthy eating and what a ";healthy lunch box' looks like.

“This was a great spring time kit. The children loved planting and caring for their 'Little Garden'. The materials and resources were a great hook to get the class motivated. This had a great link to our Enviroschool and to our ";Garden to Plate";. The badges were worn proudly and the league was very desirable! So much learning in this kit, we know know what lots of plants look like, how to care for them and what they taste like.”

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? The opportunites for cross-curricular learning were limitless. The children learnt about the environment and sustainability. We weaved Te-Reo in by learning the names of the vegetables in Maori. We weaved science in by learning about floating and sinking

The opportunities to cross curriculum are endless and the topic was engaging for the children. I extended for a full term and every child wrote later in student

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? Links were made to Maths , Reading, Writing and Science.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We were able to study how the seedlings needed to be planted on quickly so that they could get more nutrients. As we are learning about being Kaitiaki of God's creations this has raised awareness of what we need to do to ensure that plants stay healthy.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? We had a trip to the Botanical Gardens, and my students were fascinated to find that some of the flowers eg. borage were actually edible.

“It was great to have the kit in my classroom. Many of my students were growing the seeds at home as well so there was a lot of discussion about which seeds were growing the fastest, etc. Most of my student' plants were ready to be taken home because it was holiday time.”

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? Cross curricular learning included health, physical education, Science and English.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Future learning included cooking with the veg grown, maths with working out length of time from germination to harvest.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Students loved the matching game and identifying veg. This was great to lead into class discussions about what the children recognise/ eat, and what they don't. We used the 5+ a day resources alongside this unit which worked well.

“My students loved being members of The Little Garden League. They felt like they were in a special club and we had a secret hand shake and everything. They really enjoyed watching their plants grow and took them home to continue the learning. All the resources were great! Thank you!”
