In what ways has this kit improved student awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Not so much.
How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? I brought in herbs and vegetables from home (the ones we tried to grow) and let them try them.
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Unless you do this in the beginning of the year and somehow get them plants to survive over the holidays, it doesn't really work. Your students move on to a new year level at the end of the year.

What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? The student liked growing the plants and were very proud of them.
The kit didn't work so well as there were a lot of activities to do before the planting to build the mystery and the club. We didn't have time to do them as we were short of time. The growing itself took a lot of time and we needed to do this asap or the year would be finished. We grew the plants, but we then had to dig them up and send them home with students for the end of the year. We never had a chance to taste them as a class.

What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? Science and literacy (procedural writing)
I loved that the kit gave the children an opportunity to understand that food does not come from supermarkets. It also made them think that you need work to get something growing fully. It helped make them aware of the whole food chain.

How effective was this kit in promoting healthy eating in your classroom?
In what ways has this kit improved student awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Mainly through peer discussions. Tamariki were very keen to share their knowledge.
How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? I think it was hard because the resources used pictures of characters and character names. I used a number of my own photos towards the end and I think they were more useful.
This was my first kit and I found it a little hard to navigate the website and use all of the resources within my planning and existing daily timetable. The topic was certainly engaging and the act of planting seeds drew out a lot of interesting information from my tamariki. I think that using the character names was a little bit difficult for the younger learners and they would have benefitted from plain pictures and standard names of vegetables but that is something to think about in my planning next time.

In what ways has this kit improved student awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Our "picky" eaters wanted to be part of the fun and wore their Little Garden badges with pride while doing taste tests and naming new veggies that they hadn't encountered before.
How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? The tamariki identified and became familiar with veggies that they had never heard about before the kit. They became so confident in identifying them and would share this information with their whānau.
The ākonga truly embraced the opportunity to become kaitiaki. They planted, cared for and shared their crops from their Little Garden. The entire kura supported our NE/Y1 class in their efforts. Such a special way to bond with their older "buddy class".
