In what ways has this kit improved student awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? It has actually lead to us wanting to further educate all of our students around healthy eating and sustainability through 'litterless' lunches.
How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? Very!
We used our Little Garden League 22 with around 15 of our ESOL students. It was fantastic for practising names of the plants/veges and vocabulary around gardening. We planted the seeds and the children took them home to watch them grow over the holidays. We were also able to link this to healthy eating and what foods can be added to school lunches. We have also saved some of our seeds to plant this year and we will transplant the seedlings into the school garden once they are big enough. Our hope is to harvest these and sell them for a gold coin donation at our school gate in the afternoons. The money raised will go towards purchasing new seeds and compost for our school garden.

This was an awesome kit, that has had a long-lasting effect. We were able to start up a school garden where we are now able to use the produce to create delicious meals at school. This was an awesome learning experience for kids. The kids became more willing to try it because they had grown it themselves

In what ways has this kit improved student awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Learners understood that the vegetables that they know don't come from markets. How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? Learners got to know many different types and names of vegetables. They had time to research about their vegetable and share their knowledge of their vegetable. They became interested to know more about other vegetables.
The Little Gardeners Kit was filled with fun activities to teach learners about the science focus 'Our star the Sun'. We all became little gardeners - messy hands! We learned new vocabulary and learners were able to use those words during the gardening experience. They were interested in their vegetable and were motivated to learn about other vegetables that were growing in our garden. Learners excitedly came to school every morning to check their plant pots. They were amazed to see how fast it could grow. We did many experiments such as putting some under the shade for a couple of days, no water for a day etc. The plants that had enough sunlight and water grew well (of course!) I couldn't have organised the resources and planned for this exciting experience if it wasn't for the school kit! Thank you so much!
