This is a fantastic resource to be used in the classroom to inspire tamariki to learn and grow vegetables from seed, to be part of the process of gardening. To see where their food comes from and to have an understanding based on experience. I highly recommend this resource!

My Year 1 class enjoyed the Little Garden, especially planting their seeds and watering these each day. We used our gloves from the Sea box we did last time. Lots of children had prior knowledge of gardening and had gardens at home. There were lots of excellent opportunities for oral language.

We loved our little garden. Tasted lots of veges. Our favourites were raw carrots and beetroot. We enjoyed planting our seeds and watching them grow, we've learnt that too much water isn't great.

How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? Highly successful. Upon completion my tamariki were not only able to identify all the vegetables but they could tell you a few facts about them.
The kit once again was a hit with my tamariki. It was a great introduction to hands-on, sustainable practices and healthy eating. My class loved seeing their plants grow and also the decodable card and messages. When they had to apply to be a part of the club, my class was so invested, they were eager to complete their writing that day. Some of my class had never seen a suede or a radish before and it was awesome to see their faces light up discovering new vegetables.

How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? most were pretty good with both the plant and the vegetavle
The kit is a great introduction to looking after their own garden. Some children already had some experience with gardening and vegetables so they were a great help to the others and became the class 'experts' which was a great chance to grow role models.
