The little garden gave many of our students to be active in tending to their little gardens. We have many raised garden beds outside the classrooms now. This resource has supported our school in educating our students with practical experience and knowledge to have gardens of their own.

In what ways has this kit improved student awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Tied in with our lunches and the tamariki were able to understand that unprocessed vegetables are much more nutritious in addition to tasting better.
How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? Good for those that got to full size. The rate of attrition was quite high, very good for learning about seasonality.
Really loved the concept of this school kit. It got the children buzzing and checking on the germination everyday. Great too to spread out over time. Lots of discussion about what was going on, what an opportunity for oral language development! Also a great way to accept a bit of failure. The only negative for us was the use of the word pledge, the connotation this brings to mind for some was not particularly desirable. Overall though a very relevant and timely theme.

I work in a new entrants space and we have 5 kaiako (Modern Learning Environment). We all ordered a kit which was well packaged and easy to follow items for classroom use. Between all of us, we had 1 display area, so there was a lot of stuff we didn't use. I always try to find a use for everything but I did have to throw out some pieces eg, flags (banner) and the picture pack (too many). We used the picture packs as a memory game which was very good.
