My Year One children absolutely love the Little Garden kit. The children worked well with their buddies to decode the secret messages. Each day when they come to school they check to see how the seedlings are doing. The children will each take a seedling home for the holidays. On our class calendar we have the last day of the term marked - not because the children are counting down to the holidays, but they are counting down the sleeps until they can take their seedling home - they are so looking forward to it!

In what ways has this kit improved student awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? I believe that once we have fully grown vegetables students will be more inclined to try them. We did however have great discussions on the importance of including vegetables into our diet.
How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? The activity with all the vegetables names were a great engaging task to identify what each vegetable is. Additionally watching them grow and see how different vegetables grow from others.
My class absolutely loved this kit, right from the beginning. We have learnt a variety of new skills such as how to fold a piece of paper into an envelope, how to plant seeds and how to take care of plants. We cant wait to try our vegetables once they are fully grown.

How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? Some impact. I think I could have used the kit more effectively to promote this.
My five year old students were so excited to become members of the Little Garden League. They took their responsibilities very seriously, from caring for their seedlings to giving the vegetables in their school lunches a try. This kit was very hands on and had an element of mystery that captured the children’s interest. We loved it!

In what ways has this kit improved student awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Our class already knew the importance of vegetables for our own health. A main concern that they had was the price of vegetables supermarket these days, so they were really keen to try grow a vegetable for them to take home to their whanau.
How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? The children knew a lot of the vegetables and researched about a couple, such as swede, borage, radish. We then moved on to learning the Maori words for all of the vegetables as part of our admission into our Little Garden League.
My class really got into the whole kit. They helped each other plant and set up a roster for the people in charge for the day, which included putting the plants out in the sun and watering them. Once the plants got bigger, we repotted into bigger pots. The children will take their plants home to continue to look after during the holidays and hopefully be able to harvest them for their whanau.

In what ways has this kit improved student awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? It opened their eyes to the variety of veges available. WE haven't been able to eat any yet - still growing, but plan to do so late next term.
How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? I think once the veges have grown and they see them 'for real' it will have a great impact.
Children were very excited to be part of the 'club'. Nice little touches to become members. Very motivated to learn different veges to be part of the club. We are now waiting for the plants to grow.
