The little garden kid has been a fantastic addition to our plant mania unit this term. My year 0/1 tamariki loved the hands on nature of planting, caring and observation of the growing seeds. This was all able to be completed independently. Looking forward to planting our seedlings out and eating some produce before the end of the year. Thanks School Kit!

In what ways has this kit improved student awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? They have an awareness of a wider range of vegetables and know they are good for them and keep their body healthy. They were encouraged to all try a new vegetable and this really worked at home (several parents commented on this).
How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? Good, they identified a variety of vegetables and learnt some new ones.
Loved this resource. The children really got into it. They loved passing the challenge to become members and one child took his badge home and told Mum he couldn't wear it until he had tried a new vege at home! They did struggle to complete the application form (Year 0/1) however and I had older buddies in one day who I used to help. Not sure how we would have completed this with out them. They still choose to get out the vege match game.

In what ways has this kit improved student awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Our students are naming vegetables or matching them. Most are able to correctly locate them on their communication device with little support. This is a big win for us and their whanau as they can transfer this sill at home for meal times.
How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? Mainly the basics but was some excitement about popping corn.
Working in a school with a wide range of diverse needs this kit was such an enriching topic for us. It created valuable learning and great opportunities to extend vocabulary and use alongside communication devices and assistive technology. It enriched our programme and we are looking forward to using some of our very own home grown plants in our cooking programme next term. Seeing the whole journey from garden to table is very exciting for some of our tamariki who had no idea where some of their kai came from.
