In what ways has this kit improved student awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? They are very aware of the fact that we need to have vegetables every day, and that food that has been living is the most nutritious.

How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? Huge. Lots of children had very limited knowledge about vegetables and their names. They enjoyed playing the game where they had to identify the vegetables.

What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? We used this kit as part of our Learning through play, Garden to Table, and Healthy Eating programmes. We also incorporated it into our literacy and Mathematics learning.

In what ways has this kit improved student awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? When the plants grow we will harvest the produce and use it in our garden to table cooking sessions. The students had great discussions about what vegetables they like to eat and which ones they would like to try.

How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? The students talked about the different seeds and we eager to watch them grow. The seeds are growing well in our school gardens. The students loved using the plant ID cards to play games and test each other on their plant ID skills.

We did lots of writing about our plants, caring for them, understanding what they need and writing stories about what we like to eat and try. For maths we measured our plants and decided what ones were the shortest and then the tallest by comparing them

In what ways has this kit improved student awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Students were more curious at lunch time with the vegetables in their school lunches and able to identify them and talk about their tastes.

How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? Students were introduced to the names of new vegetables and we looked up their meanings and what they looked like. The students were able to talk about what the vegetables growing were.

“It was an awesome kit, my children were so excited to learn about environmental science this term. They enjoyed the process of watching the plants grow from seeds into pants/ flowers. We learnt about what we needed to care for a plant/ seed and what they need to grow.”

In what ways has this kit improved student awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? That vegetables grown from seeds shows them how easy it is to grow healthy foods (with care of course) with out the need for a big garden space.

With a New Entrant class its was interesting to see how many children could name or recognize the vegetables and to relate to home if they had ever tried them before.
